This historic merchant's house has been converted into a most interesting museum of "man and the sea". Skeletons of Calamar Gigantica and Caperea Marginata are the highlights but many more very interesting specimens. Only a short walk from the port area albeit via an industrial area.

Make sure you have enough time to chill out and take in the views from the observation tower! Lots of interesting facts about all the wildlife around the area and it's in English!

It's a good place to visit if you have a little bit of free time. 10 pesos for the entrance fee and you can also have a english guide. . . You can see the local animal and plant in vitrine.

Fascinated by the museum - well worth a look. Loved the history - didnt have a guide but was still okay.

Well presented evolution of dinosaurs. Very helpful if you have a guide. Short term only, unless you are into that sort of thing

If you're in Puerto Madryn and have an afternoon to spare - walk out to this wonderful little gem of a museum and learn about the whales. It's also worth taking time to have a coffee break in their little cafe and just to spend a little while looking out over the vast ocean from the room in the old lighthouse tower.

The museum is well done, the big squid under glass is impressive! Enough to see and read about that makes it worth your while. Plus you get the added bonus of a historic house that has lots of character and very nice ceramic glazed tiles throughout. Well worth your time!

This is a delightful little museum housed in a quirky ex - residential home built in 1917. Known as “Madryn’s Castle” - formerly Pujol Palace (the original owners) and donated by local relatives. We walked here from the cruise terminal which is not a long walk but try get a location map anyway to get your bearings. If you don’t fancy the rather long journey to Peninsula Valdés or Punta Tomba to see extraordinary wildlife, then visiting this museum will add a touch of local flavour to your town walk. Most of the displays are treasures of the marine ecosystem including, fish, invertebrates, marine mammals, birds and cetaceans. Other important displays are of the Chubut region’s flora & fauna as well as a timeline on Welsh history and immigration here. Each room is small without the usual overwhelming sensory or verbatim overload, in fact it’s so interesting you get to the top floor and think, isn’t there more? Room Descriptions:Tehuelches Myths and Legends European Travellers and Naturalists National Project Ecology Patagonia and Argentinean Identity Botanic , Leather and Painted Fabrics Fishermen On the top floor is a lookout, with dramatic views of Puerto Madryn town with some coastline and finally, what is a quirky home without a set of spiraling carved stone steps to give you a sense of yesteryear? A very small entry fee (in pesos) can be bought at the little window after the front doors – worth every centavo!Enjoy your experience!

There was a lot of interesting information and exhibits in this small museum. Some was translated, but it would be helpful if all information were given in both Spanish and English, especially as some of the vocabulary was quite challenging for tourist-level Spanish. The staff were friendly and helpful. A good hour's wander if it's cloudy out.

Natural Science and Oceanographic Museum was a nice place to visit. It has a bit of everything from fauna to flora. It has a massive whale skeleton which is pretty amazing and statues of little lions etc. I like it but I was not awed. It is worth a visit if you are in the area but it not worth the detour.

The whole place is well thought out and informative. Staff very friendly and helpful. But the best bit is the 2nd floor viewing tower. All round glass, comfy sofas and fabulous views.

There is a free shuttle at 10:00 a.m. to the EcoCentro from the tourist information office, close to where the shuttle from the dock stops. The museum has very good displays on marine life in he area and the effects of our mistreatment of the oceans with all signs in Spanish and English. A tide pool display with live sea life and lots of short films, most with English subtitles, and a lookout tower accessed by inside stairs. We walked back since it was such a nice day, part of the walk along the beach (about an hour). Well worth a visit if you're looking for something inexpensive to do in Puerto Madryn.

Be careful if you drive there, don't park on the avenue in front, park on the narrow street on the side (part is gravel - you can park on the gravel or on the street). They smash windows and steal the contents (same thing with bikes or motorcycles). I was warned by the museum employees. No estacionen en la avenida, rompen los vidrios de los autos y roban contenidos, cuidado tb motos y bicis. Las chicas del museo me alertaron. Estacionar en la otra calle (tiene una partecita de ripio donde se puede estacionar)/

If you can go here before going on any tours that would be good as the museum gives a lot of background information to the area/animals. Very nice building.

This is a museum but not the size you would expect in larger cities of course. A very well thought out and laid out exhibition documenting the biodiversity of this part of Patagonia and if you don't know what this part of Argentina has to offer then stop here and read up about the wildlife of the region.
