We just drove past this church and saw that it was open. During the Soviet era it was converted into a archive building so they just added extra floors and removed what religious items they could and covered others up. It is being restored by volunteers from the community.and one of them showed us around. It is in poor condition and safety factors are limited but it is not a tourist site yet. The volunteers have a lot of work ahead of them to remove the extra floors and other evidence of the Soviet era and to get it back to its initial role. It is a Catholic Church so its design is different from the majority churches in Ukraine which belong to one of the Orthodox faiths.

This Cathedral, although non-operating for years and in poor condition, has nevertheless always been among my favourite places in Chernivtsi. But until my most recent trip in September I never was lucky to get inside. According to the info on the fence surrounding the Cathedral, it has been returned to the Rome-Catholic community. So the reconstruction can hopefully be expected here, sooner or later. As of Sep 2013, all works were only conducted by volunteers. They gradually clear the Cathedral off its Soviet Archive past and try to restore the original looks. So if you come any time soon, with a very good deal of imagination you can see what it was as both an Archive and a Cathedral before. When there was an archive here, the church was artificially divided into three floors for the needs of bureaucracy. The organ was thrown away. The original stained glass windows were substituted with simple glass. Tiled floor was hidden and frescoes on the walls were covered with typical Soviet dull painting. Now the volunteers are slowly removing these artificial floors, and have discovered the remaining original frescoes and stucco works, and reopened the stained glass tops of the windows. They were kind enough to give us a free and perfectly informative tour around the Cathedral. We have ascended to the upper levels and could estimate the height of the Cathedral and how much work is still to be done... Another remarkable thing about this place is its crypt where the volunteers have discovered what they preliminary estimated as the burial ground of Polish soldiers of WWI. So although Jesus Heart Cathedral remains in a poor condition, it was nevertheless a unique experience that we had visiting it.

Love this place, but pity that there is nobody to reconstruct it. The local Catholic community has no money for that, goverment always forgets such things as culture. The is only hope left.

Костел иезуитов "Сердце Иисуса" производит ошеломляющее впечатление с первого взгляда! Он полон мистики и возвышенности, просто великолепен! К сожалению, сейчас пребывает в состоянии ремонта после многолетнего забвения, в связи с чем невозможно увидеть его внутри. Но и внешний вид этого прекрасного нео-готического храма стоит того, чтобы уделить ему свое внимание. Не пропустите!

Я обожаю храмы в таком стиле. Когда стоишь и смотришь на него ты понимаешь красота стиля и что его нужно немного подлечить.Очень жаль будет если он так и останется в таком виде... Обязательно к посещению!

Впечатляет, старинный, величественный. Вечером если на него смотреть, даже перестаешь осознавать что ты в Украине.

Около этого место надо стоять с поднятой вверх головой и постаратся увидеть даль. Место притягивает величием и знаковостью, конечно требует реставрации, но даже так как сейчас все очень красиво

Уже много лет это место не работает по прямому предназначению. И охвачено легендами и мифами: почему храм закрыли, почему не сделали музей?, что случилось с последним священником? На вопрос прохожим почему он закрыт и так обветшал, люди отвечали что его давным давно забросили как городские власти так и государственные. Сейчас внутри расположен архив. От храма веет загадочностью, как в средневековье.

это место как-будто переносит вас в сказку с магами и волшебниками... мне повезло побывать и внутри! жаль и грустно, что внутри храма на 99% ничего не сохранено... много денежных средств государства были направлены и идут не туда куда нужно!!!! будем надеяться, что благодаря нам туристам все измениться!!! и в храме начнутся реставрации!
