A beautiful cathedral, which was renovated. It is a symbol of old Keningsberg, before the city became part of Russia. The surroundings are beautiful as well. Famous Emmanuel Kant was burried here. Although I did not have a chance, it is recomended to hear the organ playing.

Located on Kant island colored in dark red and yellow. Numbers of extended windows and tower with clock create an impression ща old gothic cathedral.

The museum is built on three floors with E Kant is the central figure. The Russian/German historians did a great job collecting, restoring and displaying a pig collection of artifacts from that period(coins, buttons, keys and more).

The old Cathedral. The Museum of the Cathedral's restoration. Library. The city history Museum. Death mask of Kant. The Tomb Of Immanuel Kant.

Although not in English you can see some old pictures of Konigsberg. It is impressing to see what is left of the old city right now. Besides that you can read and learn more about Immanuel Kant.

The cathedral sits in pleasant isolation on a small island in the middle of Kaliningrad, there are small orthodox and catholic chapels in the building but its main purpose would appear to be as a concert hall. Everyday at 14:00 there is an organ recital on the cathedral's massive organ, a wonderful instrument expertly played.

The museum gives you a good view of what Koningsberg was once like. All the explanations were in Russian but the pictures and Marquette's already say a lot. Was not so much impressed by the Kant room.

We were fortunate to had visited the day of a concert. The organ recital was excellent and the sound projected so well as it radiated throughout the massive interior. The grounds are lovely and the interior is of course still a work in progress that continue to progress.

A cathedral was once built in order to serve a community of believers, usually resident in the urban dwelling hosting that cathedral, or exceptionally, a place of pilgrimage with visiting believers. What strikes about Koenigsberg's cathedral is that it is surrounded by the void. Specially in winter, when it is cold & foggy, one can feel the absence of the gothic town that has vanished under British bombing prior to Soviet occupation. WW2 is still a sensitive topic. The cathedral plays an uncomfortable role as place of faith for those who still want to use it as a house of God, after decades of atheism, those who believe it is a historical monument (hosting none the less than Kant's grave) and who would love it to be strictly adhering to historical truth, and finally those who strike coins on its square, using it as a Disneyland to get the tourist dollar.

This cathedral is a great testimony to the times of the Prussian empire on the river island where, nowadays, none of the other old buildings stand. It was saved by the fact that Kant's grave was attached to it, otherwise it would have been torn down during communist times. The cathedral itself is interesting and reminds you of German Fachwerkhaus, however the inner museum is kind of boring. You can't really see the inside of the cathedral, only with a concert ticket and the museum is a mix of everything put together. One of the few things worth seeing there is a reconstruction of the Koenigsberg as it looked during times of Prussian empire.

It is a light, beautiful cathedral - a landmark of the City. That' s where the newly-wedds go to have their photo taken (the bridge leading to cathedral is covered with love keys). I consider myself lucky as I had the opportunity to hear the organ concert in the Cathedral. It sounded magnificient! Alledgedly the best organ around the Baltic Sea.

rebuillt as destroyed- + now designed thks to the soviet union as an architectural museum without the original altars.shame it is no longer a church but given most of the centre has been rebuilt with soviet ugly blocks- worth a visit anyway...

Fans of churches and German nostalgics may get more out of it.

One of the things it's worth to see in Kaliningrad.

Without a doubt the Cathedral situated on the island Kneiphof on the Pregolya River has to be the most important visitor site in the city. From the burnt-out shell that remained after the Allied bombing raids on Koenigsberg late in WW II the building has been totally restored to an incredibly high standard, the stained glass windows in the west face depicting the various districts of the city being but one example of the quality of the restoration. A display shows the various stages of the work carried out as well as many historic artifacts and documents. The grounds surrounding the Cathedral are planted with many types of trees making it a pleasant area in which to sit and admire the exterior of the building which was the only structure to survive the bombs and subsequent fires in the old wood-framed Prussian dwellings and warehouses surrounding it. Sadly 40% of residential and business property was destroyed in just one raid on this historic and once- beautiful city of learning and culture.
