Siggy and Maria are great hosts.Aside from being extremely informative and fun, Siggy really steps in the viking times to explain the story of Erik, The Red and his son Leifur.Guests are always so interested and involved in the re-enactment that they want to stay longer.Maria is a charming hostess and takes good care of the area. The place carries local crafted wool clothing and souvenirs.Worth the detour if travelling within the Snaelfellness Peninsula in Iceland.
the docent was delightful - very knowledgeable, funny, cute! Not only explained living conditions, but also sleeping conditions, which was a real surprise.
We enjoyed the whole experience, but the lovely guide made our day. She a lot of knowledge, and a good sense of humour. She told a lot, and made history come alive. This is a must see for anyone with norwgian roots :-)
Literature states "Most evidence suggest that Eirik the Red´s son Leif Ericsson "Leif the Lucky" was born at Eirkisstadir. Leifur became the first European to set foot in North America, which he named Vinland, in the year 1000". Archaeological remains of a 10th century Viking longhouse remain. There is also a reconstruction which usually has a "dressed up Viking" to talk to, which is great fun and very interesting. Enjoyed our visit very much. Recommended.
We had a tour of the house and listened to stories and then got to try out viking gear afterwards - awesome.
Находится в двух часах езды от Рейкьявика (регион Западная Исландия). В Eiriksstaðir находятся несколько традиционно исландских земляных домов, в которые даже можно зайти. Вся местность связана с множеством легенд и сказаний со времён викингов.
