You could not imagine what the master could make out of marzipan. Real life size furnitures, etc. Worth to visit.
This wonder museum is unbelievable: if they put you inside the museum you'll never guess in a million years that the huge variety of products you see are made of matzipan. The famous painting of van Gogh or the superb baroque style room with tables and chairs and everything else all made of matzipan. The chief master of this beauties received two Guinness records and endless prizes. How do they keep all these food products in shape? I asked the museum manager and the answer was: the museum has ZERO humidity in the atmosphere inside, electronically controlled. It is allowed to take pictures . Of course ,it is forbidden to taste the products !!The museum is well situated near the fortress and near the minaret.Across the museum is a shop with a lot of sweet products, not only made of marzipan.Watch your calories !!
We came Eger to see the fortress and the minaret, but this little museum, to me, was the most amazing thing we saw that day. It is a small place, located right near the minaret. The fee to enter is very reasonable (a few hundred forints per person, plus they give a student discount.) Everything in the museum is made of candy. Chandeliers, a violin, a parlor -even intricate weavings of Hungarian embroidery. The quality of workmanship of the items rivaled that of any castle. There is a small candy shop next door where you can purchase some of marzipan confections. The candy was very expensive, but you could purchase it by the piece.
Lajos Kopcsik, Master Confectioner, holder of 2 Guinness record and countless medals created an amazing array of masterpieces from sugar...about 120 pieces unbelievably lifelike- pictures, well known story characters, Hungarian pillows, soccer balls, chessboard, Matrjoska dolls, butterflies...even a 250 cm tall Baroque clock....I could not believe that is possible...the details, the colours...and there is more on the end...a whole Baroque room, where everything: the walls, the furniture , the floor , the dog- all from sugar. The Museum is next to the Minaret, walking distance from the Eger Castle and it is open every day.
This Master confectioner has made the most wonderful sculptures and paintings all from Marzipan and sugar.Their was a whole castle room replica.Just amazing
If the wheather isn't nice enough for a long walk in Eger (we had showers and therefor wet shoes), it is worth a try next to the Minaret tower. Small, village type house, 4-5 rooms full of the Master's degrees and works. Mainly ot of sugar. Amazing, but a bit too much. Children like it. The fee is acceptable.
A must see in Eger. The artistry is amazing. If you didnt know the art is marzipan you would never guess.A small gallery with a small fee to go in but well worth it.From lace that really isnt lace to a signed soccer ball! Wow. Photos allowed. Check out the Marzipan room at the end of the gallery. There is a marzipan shop across the path where you can buy.
If you ever go to Eger don't miss this small museum, close to the castle. If you are traveling with kids is a must, you will see amasing, unique creations that will became unforgettable memories!!!
We visited Kopcsik Marcipania on a rainy morning before we left our hotel. The museum is next to Hotel Minaret and if you stay there you can buy your ticket to the museum with some discount. The museum is small, but an interesting spot in the city if you like artworks. It has a lot of handmade marzipan pictures, sculptures (even replicas of famous paintings) and its main attraction is a well-decorated baroque room made of marzipan.
Vale a visita, fica perto do Minerete e do Castelo.
