little to say - the finest collection in an intimate setting- an old building containing precious stuff romantically arranged - worth visiting this area for
Love this gorgeous place next to our place, loads to learn about Greek ancient culture and life . Last Sunday of August there s an excellent outdoors concert
The Piraeus Archaeological Museum operates in a modern building. It consists of a two-store showroom with warehouse and laboratories located in the basement. There is a building connection to the oldest museum (built in 1935 and declared as under preservation)
Even though I am not really into Archaeological museums, I thought whilst I was in Piraeus it would be a good idea to pay this museum a visit.
An unexpected and outstanding collection of archeological discoveries. You can walk to the harbor. There was no crowd and my wife and I could take our time to admire the artifacts. The yard outside the museum would require some de-weeding, but, ...still give a great sense of the past.
The collection mostly consists of funeral monuments from the Piraeus Road of Tombs and object found in the harbour. The bronze statues are fantastic, especially the Piraeus Apollo, while the tomb monuments give you the understanding of particular Greek perception of the death and afterlife. The ruins of the Zeas Theatre and an open-air exhibition are accessible from the museum courtyard.
In 10 halls in a 2 floors of the neoclassical building kept archaeological finds from the area of Piraeus, the coastal zone of Salamis, the Moschatou, Glyfada ,Varis and nearest islands.
all must visit the wonderful museum of pireus it is one of the best museums in the world concerning the bronze statues collection after the renovation some time ago it iw really wonderful
Here you can gage the hardship of ancient times when you see the beauty of the masterpieces that were built the workmanship with the tools of trade you cannot help but be amazed and also confronted by skills of those people.
Long queue for entry tickets....endless... waiting. After you have been through the serpentine queue, the museum is the place to visit after the city tour
The museum has an unbelievable assortment of works, but the Mycenaean and Archaic works are amazing and there is lots to see. Plan on spending at least 3 hours here if you want to take it all in.
Amazing!!! Loved the glass floors! Very well organized and gives a better understanding of the history of Athens!
Long history,on a small but really nice museum. Everybody has to visit it.Take your breakfast at the marina Zea and the go up to visit the beautiful small archaeological place....
A lovely little museum not too far from the metro. Really nicely laid out with some fantastic exhibits eg the AntiKytherian device which was an ancient proto computer.Tends to get undeservedly overlooked by the big Athens museums but is certainly worth an hour of time. Also near the yacht harbour at the end of the road where you can inspect the latest in luxury boats and dawdle over a coffee.
don't miss this museum, it contains rare bronze sculpture and other artifacts not seen at the more famous Athens museums. Their bargain guidebook goes into depth and includes a walking guide to the many archaeological sites in the Piraeus.
