Well the space is very colorfull and welcoming. It is a unique place you should visit, and taste different types of liquers and drinks...
What a treat, from the time you walk in to the time you leave you are welcomed with a smile and the experience of the staff. First impressions will leave you in awe of the amount of selection but a quick chat with the friendly informative staff will leave you with a tasty drink steeped in Athens heritage.Definitely coming back to this bar, left an impression as we'll as a little place in our hearts.
We popped in as it was pouring it down and ended up spending hours there! A MUST DO! Brettos brew their own ouzo, 28921919 millions different flavoured drinks, amongst others! The wine tasting was a decent shout too! Fantastic find.
My friends and I stumbled across this place on a long weekend in Athens whilst out looking for a bar to drink in. The use of colour and bottles gives the venue a fantastic ambience, is very inviting, and certainly did the trick in enticing us in. Clientele were mixed, from 20-somethings upwards to 40-somethings like us. It's a small bar, with a number of large shared tables - plenty of opportunity for engaging in chat with others - and the bar staff were both friendly and attentive. The only downsides were it's not particularly cheap - from memory 8 to 10 euros for a cocktail - and, like all places in Athens there don't seem to be restrictions on indoor smoking.
Once you are in the Plaka area you can't miss this place with its multicoloured bottles of spirits begging you to step inside. But be warned - you will say to yourself you will stay for one drink but you might end up staying there till closing time.Because they serve all their wines and spirits by the glass you simply cannot go wrong. You can go in a group or even on your own because the atmosphere and shared tables helps you mingle with the rest of the crowd. I prefer to try some of the different Greek spirits and liqueurs and my personal favourite is the rakomilo but the wines are also very good. Feel free to experiment and see what you prefer. At the prices they charge for a drink you can afford to try many different varieties and then you can go back again another day and start all over again! My friends and I have had so many great nights in this place and have some special memories.
Awesome place. Must visit if you are in Athens. But not an ideal place to be with kids. And difficult to find a spot to sit.
Easy to find in Plaka, it's hard not to want to walk in when you look into the entrance way! Filled with wonderfully colourful bottles of drinks, it's a great bar to drop into! The bartenders are really friendly and helpful, explaining what's in the bottles and how they're made/where they're from. Grab a drink from here, and then if you're hungry there's a restaurant downstairs (entrance from outside) which is nice too - or go across the street to any of the cafes... then you might want to head back in there fore after dinner drinks given it's open til 1am... Worth a visit!
We went into this bar on New Years Day and planned to stay for an hour - three hours later we left. Everything was really lovely - the service, the wine choice and the atmosphere. We loved it so much that we came back the last day for a drink and to say Good-Bye to the lovely lady who served us.This is a must when coming to Athens and we will be back!
Its in Plaka and its called "potopolio" which means the store that sells drinks. But this is much more,it's a fantastic place to have a glass of wine,or have a chat with your friend. And the stuff is really friendly.
we got served from irene this bar wouldnt work out if it wasnt for irene working there . the place needs some smiles and she has it all unlike the rest of the staff there . very nice wine and friendly atmosphere. would go back !!
Dear Lulia B,I am sorry you had a bad experience in Brettos. We have over 200 wine labels that we serve by the glass, I find it difficult to believe that our wine is poor. If you didn't like a specific wine it is our policy to provide you with a another one for free. As far as the dry service is concerned I cannot really reply since there are no details in your review. What I can tell you is that we do our best to provide all our customers with the best possible service and most of the times we are been rewarded by the wonderful reviews they leave for us in Tripadvisor.
Stumbled upon Brettos quite by accident, went in "just for a look" and ended up staying for several drinks and a meze plate. The star of the the show is the Ouzo - there were several flight options available (as there were with the wine) or just single glasses which is they way we went. Between us we tried a couple of different Ouzos, Rakolemo (raki warmed with cinnamon and honey - delicious) and I do confess to succumbing to an Absinthe too. The manager was a delight - perfect english and incredibly knowledgable about the wines and spirits on offer. The ambience was eclectic without being pretentious and if we didn't have other commitments I think we''d have stayed until closing. Loved it.
This family bar has become part of my ritual when visiting Athens.Brettos in the Plaka is world renowned and has been filmed by international TV channels. Favorite hangout for discriminating locals and visitors, who appreciate the high quality and traditional atmosphere of this family owned business with a history of over a hundred years. Wines from all over Greece in more than 150 varieties, from the Peloponnese, Santorini, and many other regions, are served at the bar with a smile & chat from a lovely american lady & accompanied by excellent tidbits, like parmesan cheese, the best peppery salami, olives from Kalamata and crackers. The cocktail list includes 150 choices, and many clients taste the tsipouro or prefer one of the 40 liquors. In the evenings musical selections enhance the atmosphere, just love their music! The decor is impressive, with rainbow colored bottles covering the entire wall. Open from 10 in the morning for those who want to buy their own wine, olives and all kinds of cocktail stuff. My friends & I had a great time chatting to the locals and buying rounds of drinks.Wonderful atmosphere.I strongly recommend this bar to all wine & ouzo lovers, and I'm not just talking about the regular ouzo, but the flavored ones!Yamas! which means cheers in greek.
Very nice with a lot of beautiful people. I drank a tasty rose sparkling wine !!!!!! I thing I come here again
