If you want to have a nice look of the city and understand its size, this is the best spot for doing so. Also, the trip on the tram is a nice experience. Affordable prices and if the weather is nice, your pictures will be nicer.

I like to go there because you have a beautiful view from Karlsruhe! and you can walk around the tower, there are beautiful sights.

The Turmberg is a large hill (you couldn't really say it is a mountain) at Durlach just outside Karlsruhe. To get there, you need to take the tram to Tullastrasse, then a bus (number 11, I think) to Durlach. There is a funicular railway to take you to the top, where there is a tall mediaeval tower that the energetically minded can climb for a better view. There are also walks round about. It is a pleasant way to spend a morning or afternoon.

This is a nice place to view the surrounding area around Karlsrhue, the tram makes it a fun addition to the trip. You can go taking the trolley S1, until the last stop, climb 1 block following signs. Trolley fare one way is $1.90, round trip $2.80. If you decide to walk down, There is a less steep path, if you take the road to the right and follow a hiking trail, a few meters down, but make sure to climb to top of the tower for the magnificent views.

It is a good trip to do in Karlsruhe. A great view of the city, Turmberg is the highest point of Karlsruhe. If you like to walk, you can go on foot, but there is a option to take a "tram" that leave you in there (you need to pay for it). There are restaurant there, so you can enjoy the view and eat/drink something. This region is quite beautiful.

The entrance to the funiculaire is a bit hidden in a residential area. For a few euros you can buy a return ticket to the tip of the Turmberg. Somehow there are other tourists that manage to find the spot, we had a pretty full car going up.At the end of the funiculaire you can climb about 100 stairs to the top of the tower, for an even better view over Karlsruhe. A Michelin star restaurant is situated in the same building as the tower, see our other review.

The Turmberg offers excellent views over Karlsruhe for those who can manage the narrow spiral staircase. The funicular railway is certainly a novelty and a very interesting piece of engineering. The surrounding borough of Durlach is home to a really very pleasant high street with some great shops.

Durlach is a borough of Karlsruhe, but is actually older than Karlsruhe itself, and in many ways, more charming. To reach Durlach, get on the #1 tram (Durlach is the final destination, so the name will appear on the outside of the tram). Durlach is a network of fairly picturesque side streets with one main street running through the center, with plenty of shops and cafes. For the Turmberg (historic tower), you want to make your way to the eastern side of the neighborhood (look out for Turmbergstrasse). Once at the base of the hillside, there is the Turmbergbahn, a tram that will carry you up the side of the mountain. The tower itself is nothing fancy - just a small remnant of a Medieval fortification - but it affords a stunning view of the surrounding landscape and Karlsruhe to the west. When you come back down the hillside, roam around the residential streets directly at the base of the Turmbergbahn - there are many gorgeous houses built in the hills of Durlach (and you can feast your eyes on all the Mercedes- Benz cars parked on the streets.

Man zahlt keinen Eintritt.
