An uphill walk out of town (or bus ride?) took us to this funicular railway ride up the mountain. A bargain at 2€ each for the ride to the top. It was a foggy February day so no views available! The walk down the mountain was quite erie but fun.
great way to get to the top, we had a coffee and walked down. The 2 euro is a bargain for the view at the top
A breathtaking view revealed to you as you go up the mountain.you can go even higher if you go up the tower in the middle of the mountain. It is recommended to go around the mountain itself and see the view from all directions.
We were driving around Baden Baden and trying to find something else, who knows what, when we stumbled upon the lift to the summit. It is the steepest or longest or some world record lift to the top. Great view from the top and well worth the few coins it takes to go up. On this trip, we also went to Lucerne, Switzerland where we stayed at the hotel with the shortest funicular railroad and then to a Zermatt hotel with the tangential elevator. Those crazy Swiss and Germans can build some strange people movers.
One can reach merkurberg stop on bus from the city of Baden Baden. For 4 Euro ascent-descent on the Funicular railway, it is a nice experience. It is advisable to see the weather forecast for sunny day to visit the place. The pathways are marked really well, so one can just get up on the mountain and walk around. People also take bicycles. On the top there is a viewing tower, and trust me it gives one of the best views! I went late in the afternoon and waited to capture the sunset, and it was great! Around the tower, there are seats made for sunbathing and nice lawns. It is ideal for a family outing, with playgrounds for children.I roamed around on different trails and found a number of new things. You can see valleys from different sides and angles, the dense forest is visible. And if you feel like you can enjoy the region around while walking down the trail to the city (Tallstation Merkurbergbahn). We could also spot some deers. There are paragliders taking off from the mountain, you can sit there and enjoy that too. If nothing else, try the restaurant which I did not!I am sure that this is very nice place to come on a weekend with a book, lie down in the sun and read.
We have visited many mountaintops during our journey throug Germany and Switzerland. This activity was by far the least expensive, at just $2 each way for the train, and provided an impressive view from the top. We are happy we visited, though mostly enjoyed the walk down the road from the top back to the parking area. A nice chance to be in nature. I recommend taking the train up and walking down - the route is well signed, is about 4.5km, and took us just under one hour.
Hubby and I have been to MerkurBergbahn twice this year. We love Baden Baden and a trip to the top of the mountain is a must. Love seeing the sky divers take off and there is a lovely bar/restaurant for a drink/snack. You can also see Mercury's Dice whilst there and climb the viewing tower. Amazing views and such clean fresh air! Love the little cable car too. Beautiful and peaceful. :)
It was foggy the day we went or I am sure we could have seen France. As it was, we saw several lovely villages below and enjoyed watching the hang gliders,
From the centre of Baden Baden the bus only takes 10 minutes & it's a really pretty drive to the funicular railway. Cost is 4 Euros return on the train, which is great value! Unfortunately it was cloudy when we got to the top off of the mountain but the restaurant at he top is lovely, we stopped for tea & fantastic cakes & it's very quaint! The shop is also very good at the bottom of the funicular railways, cheaper than the airport so get souvenirs here. Think we brought up the entire shop!!
A nice trip to the top of the mountain where I was delighted to find that local brews were available. The views are extraordinary and it's a nice break from the often hectic nature of touring.
Enjoyed our trip by cable railway to the top of this hill .At the top there is a very informative open air exhibition explaining the different types of rocks that have formed it . Fantastic view from the top of the tower . Plenty of walks for all capabilties . We opted out and enjoyed what the gasthaus had to offer . Bus goes right to the entrance to the cable railway from town . Beware of the woman who sells tickets : not very good at working out the change !
Had an hour to spare so went to the funicular railway. Really pleasantly surprised that it was only €8 return for a couple. Also adequate free parking at the banhof. Lovely smooth ride up and down and the tower at the top was free. Spectacular views though it was a bit hazy. Plenty of places to sit and watch the para gliders and the world go by.
Had a great morning following some earlier reviewers advice to walk through the suburbs to the base of the train. Grab a coffe at the top and amble back down through the woods.
Having visited the castle earlier in the day this was a bonus at the top of the Merkur. The tram was 2€ each way for an adult and we walked back down one of the many paths that are clearly marked at the top.the view from the top of the tower was excellent with 360 degree views around the valleys. The cafe at the top is also excellent value for coffee and cake prior to walking down.
A must do trip on any jaunt to the area. Great views can be matched by strolling back downhill through the forest and vineyards, finally walking through the park.
