We visit Cochem on the Mosel River every year! When I do I usually take a tour of the Caste. We never get tired of the Reichsburg and always discover something new. Either on the walk up or while there like having coffee and cake on the Terrace. The view is lovely.

A fascinating tour of the castle. I took the shorter walk up that goes around the back of the hill and the longer, more picturesque, walk back that goes around the front of the hill. I enjoyed the visit but it was a shame that there was no English whatsoever spoken on the tour, only German. Those of us who spoke English (there were several) were given sheets with some printed info but it was very limited and it became somewhat frustrating that the spoken commentary was obviously so much fuller and it was a shame not to be able to share in the jokes and lighter moments. It would have been nice to have had some of the points added in English to make one feel more a part of the group.

If you are in this beautiful small town of Cochem, don't forget to visit this old fort. As they say it was originally built 1000 years ago, thereafter ruined and rebuilt many times. The present structure is nearly 300 years old made from the donations collected from local people. Nearly 100 m above the river Mosel this fort also had stratagic importance. Control and collection of revanue from trade through river Mosel. However it is beautiful, historic, now biggest tourist attraction in Cochem.

Had to visit here while in Cochem! If you are in Cochem, you must visit the Burg. Even if you are just in the Mosel Valley, you need to visit! I had been here many times in the past, but was traveling with my girlfriend and family, who had never been here. There are a few ways to reach the castle: you can walk from the downtown area pretty well straight up a fairly steep incline. There is a path that goes around it, which is not nearly as steep and a little more scenic. Lastly (and I just discovered this on my last visit), there is parking very close by. I'm not sure how to get to that parking area, but I did see it.As we went during the winter months, there were a limited number of tours each day (I believe just three). Make sure to check the schedule before you go so that you aren't surprised should it be closed. The cafe/gift shop was also closed for the season, so they weren't able go in there. As a note, tickets are normally purchased in the shop, but the tour guide took the money when the doors opened for the tour. The tours are usually conducted in German with handouts for other languages. Our tour guide decided to run the tour in three languages (based on our group), which was a lot of fun. Not all of the rooms are open for tours, but there are still enough to feel that you get your money's worth for the visit.Have no fear to take the little ones along...it will definitely wear them down with all the walking, but they do get a chance to find hidden treasure.Make sure to leave time to visit this beautifully restored castle if you are in the area!

Among all the castle tours I've had from all my travels my whole life, this one's the one that I enjoyed the most. The guide is very patient, friendly and very entertaining. I love everything about this castle, in and out. The exhibits are awesome, the view is awesome - it's such an awesome experience! It's reasonably priced compared to other castles in Germany as it just costs 5 euro per adult. Tour goes on every 10 minutes and that fact - I love cause the others would make you wait for almost an hour. There's a resto annexed to it so food is just beyond reach. We took the path from the city center on the way to it then the stairs behind the castle on the way back and it's such an awesome experience. You'll get to see Cochem city in different views. And it's all beautiful!

The view from the castle of the town of Cochem and the Mosel River is excellent. The tour of the castle is very nice. We attended a special Knights's Dinner that was served in the medieval way without utensils. The food and entertainment were both excellent.

It's a nice walk for about 20 minutes from the main centre. You get a great view of Cochem from up here. The castle itself is a gem, with a great tour -- it was in German but there was an English translation on paper, and the tour guide sometimes told jokes in English, which was pretty sweet. Cool place with lots of interesting stories to tell!

My family of four (teenagers) did this tour and were really surprised. Firstly were we lucky enough to get an English tour as the other German speaking visitors wanted to brush up on their English - so that made it easier for us to enjoy the full extent of the tour ( otherwise a sheet in English is offered to read as you tour) There was lots of furnishings inside the castle to see and the commentary was informative and interesting. It is definitely worth a visit. Tours take about 40 mins. It is a steep 20 minute walk up to the castle or you can catch a taxi up there for about 5 euro. Ps. I loved out 2 day stay in Cochem. It has lots of little shops, great cafés and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. Would choose this over Trier anytime.

We went here round lunchtime and had an excellent tour which was even done on English for us and many of the group who were English speakers. The few Germans on the tour graciously agreed as they wanted to improve there English. Wish we could speak that much German! It was a good tour to fill an hour with a great vista above Cochem!!

Travel back in time to enjoy what it must have been like to be a guest of the Lord of the Manor! The journey begins with a tour of the castle, meticulously restored, with all the things you hope to see in a castle. The metal armour of the guards, magnificent sitting and dining rooms, artwork and secret doors to hidden passageways... The tour guides were very passionate about the history, and the stories, although in German, the English tour sheets provided an excellent translation and keepsake. And then the feast began... I won't spoil it for you, you must experience it for yourself!!

This castle located high above the town offers a wonderful view of the city and the magnificent river Mosel. On the way you will see several schools and parrerais very well maintained.

Private tour of Castle in English. Our guide was friendly and answered all our questions and we were a group of 24. If your in Cochem, don't leave until you have seen the castle upfront and personal. The views are just spectacular over the Mosel river!

I attended a tour of the Reichsburg Castle in Cochem, Germany in November 2014. It lasted about 45 minutes and went into detail on the building, reconstruction and furnishing of this medieval "Schloss" overlooking the Rhine River. The tour cost only 5 Euros, but it was in German. Unless you have a private tour guide, you will have to try to make sense of what is being explained. However, the inside of the castle, the armor, the dishware, the secret passages, and the tower and the structure itself is worth the visit. You can reach it from the bus down below in the central square for 1.50 Euro. The walk back down is easy for anyone in normal fitness condition, so you only need to buy a ticket one way.I truly enjoyed seeing the ins and outs of medieval life and hearing about the various events over the past 1,000 years that shaped the destiny of this castle.
