It's such a pity that this church is closed outside its mass rituals, but then, it's maybe better, because it is not "invaded" by tourists. This is a true gem, off the beaten path, perfect for those who want to experience Trier like a local. The outside doesn't betray the interior, which is breathtaking. A must-see.
Next to a playground that has a jungle gym and merry go round but no swing. Soccer not allowed in this small park. Anyway, about the church... Beautiful copper doors, interior lovely and feels holy inside. Plus few tourists since they're at all the other places in the walkable parts of town.
As we had seen the pix at he site our group tried to visit its interior, but we found the church closed, such a pitty! Instead of visiting its interior we watched for 15 minutes a dove trying to drink at the nearby fountain. The church is not located in the city centre but if one has already ended up at the Constantin basillica this church is not that far away. Recommended.
If one wants to see its interior one needs to do so when mass is going on, as normaly outside those the church is closed. Must say it is really worth the effort as it is one of the most charming church interiors in Trier. This Parish church is located near the town hall “Augustinerhof” and the Trier Theatre. It was built between 1458 and 1514 in the southwest corner of the grounds of the no longer existing Capucine monastery. Interior is light and spacious with a richly reticulated vaulting Late Gothic period. Simply furnished. Elaborately carved rococo pulpit from 1762, taken from the remains of the Dominican monastery, which stood near the Cathedral and was demolished in 1812. Richly decorated with figures of the Evangelists, the Church Fathers and Dominicans. Is the successor to a church originally outside the city wall which lost its importance because of its location (St. Mary's at the Bridge).
В настолько наполненном (даже, пожалуй, переполненном) достопримечательностями городе, как Трир, было очень неожиданно и от этого еще более приятно встретить такую "нетуристическую" красоту, завораживающую своей простотой и изяществом.
