I didn't think Neumarkt itself was a special square, but I'd recommend it because it's the place where you can get a decent, full shot of the beautiful Frauenkirche. At the time I was visiting they were performing works on the square though, so I might have to go again to see the end result.

This part of the city was totally devastated in WW2 by allied bombing - the fact that anything resembling what was here before is amazing in truth. Now the harsh bit, sorry but I felt it was like Disneyland - really nice, beautiful but just not real. In truth I found the area south of the river rather soulless - far nicer and more genuine feel to everything North of the river I'm afraid.

That this really is a 'new' market area.A day in 1945 this place was hell but has been rebuilt with style and now has the honour of being Dresden's center, whell at least at Christmas,of attention.no matter where you stay you will end up at some point visiting here.

History alive, walk around, see ugly buildings (the symphony hall), recently restored/rebould buildings (nice), ongoing excavations and try to imagine what happened here.

The Bohemian Quarter was qurky with lots of graffiti, bong shops, alternative music and restaurants but interesting to walk through. We had a fabulous pide at a crowded Turkish restaurant.

A very lively space, with plenty going on, with cafes and restaurants a plenty; found the bicycle rickshaws very handy, and just loved the ambiance of the place.

A beautiful and busy shopping hub opposite the old market square. We took refuge there to escape the rain. It is full of tasteful designer shops and restaurants. I simply loved the shopping!

Dresden was bombed almost to nothing and they built all this back up using as many original materials as possible...it is a WOW moment for sure!

We spent much of our time in Dresden in this area because it has many good restaurants and it was close to our hotel. It has the Frauenkirche and other buildings with interesting architecture, making for a lovely stroll. Many of the buildings in the area were rebuilt after the war to resemble how they were before and they look great. During the daytime and around dinner time, you can often find street musicians performing in the area. Our favorites were a couple singing opera and a folk singer, Jamie Collier. There are also lots of stores in the area including some high-end boutiques.

We stayed at a Hotel in the market square. WOW. The atmosphere of the square makes this a must, there are many places to eat with in the square and provides wonderful access to many sites of interest. Stop and enjoy a lovely cup of coffee or a wonderful dinner while taking in the beauty that is Dresden.

This place is very nice to be. It is in th neighbourhood of all kind of great buildings. There are a lot of restaurants. Always full of people, enjoying their holidays. Still working on rebuilding. If the square is ready, it has the option, to be one of the nicest of Europe.

Dresden was marked as a lunch stop on a recent drive from Berlin to Prague. And it proved to be a lunch stop on steroids!!As other reviewers have noted Dresden was pretty much destroyed by allied bombing raids in WWII and a visit to experience the nature and the extent of the city's reconstruction was high on the agenda. Neumarkt was a great place to start and we were fortunate to have a clear day with bright sunshine.Pros: spectacular architecture on all sides of the square, no shortage of quality eating options at a range of prices, friendly people, great people viewing, convenient car parking close by and the majesty of Frauenkirche! Cons: We were only in town for lunch!Dresden is now on our list of 'must revisits' but for our short stay this time, Neumarkt was a wonderful sanctuary!!

We visited Dresden in December specifically for the Christmas markets.......this place is alive in December. We could not get enough of this square, it is modern, beautiful, classy, busy, alive and fresh and full of German hospitality. The hustle and bustle at this time of the year with all the great gifts and souvenirs and the yummy food and snacks and not forgetting the gluhwein which is most welcoming on cold frosty German days.
