It is said this is the best liquorice in the world and the Amarelli family are still going strong. Loved the Palazzo, which is the family home with the museum underneath. All excellently displayed and interesting. The factory is also interesting and the smell is amazing. A taste of the liquor or grappa would have been nice in the shop. We turned up and as we hadn't booked, waited 10 mins and then got a guided tour for free. Really well worthwhile going if you're in the area. Taxi from the train station is the easiest way.

Very interesting tour and very knowledgable guide. Well worth a visit as it is so unique, you will not have an experience like this anywhere else in the world.

Learning about the manufacture of liquorice. Apart from the museum there isn't much else to see in Rossano.

We recently toured Southern Italy and whilst staying in Rossano, our host at the Tenuta where we stayed recommended visiting the Amarelli factory and museum. Even though it was out of season and the weekend, a visit to the museum was arranged but unfortunately the factory was closed. Even still, it was possible to wander around and see some of the old machines exhibited outside the factory. The museum itself was absolutely excellent and one of the most interesting and professionally presented small museums I have been to. The lady who showed us around was excellent, even though it wasn't her job, and the girl in the shop was really helpful. The shop itself and the Amarelli products are fantastic!! I couldn't recommend this enough.

My partner and I toured around Southern Italy for 2 weeks and we had a 2 night stop in Rossano. The owner of our B&B advised us about the local attractions and told us the Museum of Liquorice was a must see and we were not disappointed. A visit was set up for us and when we arrived there, a lady took us for a private tour around the museum. Unfortunately, being there on a Sunday, the factory itself was shut but the museum was very well made and extremely interesting. Great attraction for Rossano.

This will be one of the most fascinating and enjoyable 60 minutes you will spend in a 'factory/museum' visit. We were initially sceptical but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit to this region

On the surface the history of licorice may have needed only a 20 minute tour, however, our tour guide, Angela, added insight and commentary throughout our walk through the museum. In the second and newer portion of the museum she pointed iout the balance the Amarelli family has taken over the 300 years between the original values and craftsmanship with new technologies to continue to be a relevant and profitable company in Rossano, Calebria and Italy. As a lover of licorice, I learned about the licorice plant and the process by which my favorite candy is made. It is worth a visit...ask for Angela as a tour guide and enjoy the ride.

First of all, it is very interesting to know this plant native of the mediterranean region. It is said it was discovered by pastors who used to chew its sweet tasting roots. The museum, in the XV century mansion that always belonged to the Amarelly family, is not big, but well planned. It tells the family's history, shows how life was lived in the past with its uses and traditions, and displays tools and techniques used in the country and confection of candy, which won them a Guggenheim award. As part of the visit there is a small tour of the confection of licorice candy. This visit is available from Mondays though Frdays at 10am, and can be booked through their website. http://www.museodellaliquirizia.it/inglese.html. There's also a good gift shop with a large range of products made of "liquirizia". If you're in Rossano it is also worth visiting the city's cathedral with its Madonna dell'Achiropita painting. The name means "not painted by human hands". Next to the cathedral is the museo Diocesiano where the "Codex Purpureus Rossanensis" is on display. It is an old bizantyne testament dated from the V century.

Molto interessante. Impressionante sapere che questa azienda è in attività da oltre 200 anni.Con i tempi che corrono è quasi incredibile che possano esistere realtà simili. .
