It's quite a climb from the Piazza Michelangelo, but well worth it. Lots of steps, but you can pause to look around the cemetery. The church is very dark when you enter, but put 2 euros in the machine and the lights will come on for a while. There are some amazing frescoes and the church is quite different from others, so well worth the trip. There is a chapel at the front of the church, off to the side, which is beautiful, again, you have to lay for the lights, but there is no entrance fee as here is to all other churches in Florence, so you can't grumble. The paintings are fantastic.

This is a great little church above the Piazzale Michelangelo. Very old. Very very old. Go in the evening and little to the Mass. Go after that and watch the monks descend to sing vespers. Pay to light up the mosaic above the high altar. Go again during the day and come back on the small lane in back of the wall - going toward San Nicolo.

This was one of the attractions that was a must-visit for me. I was anxious to get the timing right to be able to hear the Gregorian chant as I had read that some reviewers did not get the chance to hear the monks in their evening devotion. We took bus number 12 (ATAF) from outside the train station (the pick-up point is along a side road across from the right hand corner of the station where taxis exit after pickup). This is the first pick up point for the bus so the chances of getting a seat for the about 1 hour ride up is about the best. Ensure to purchase a return ticket from the magazine stand fronting the station, unless you plan to walk back and remember to check the timings. We dropped off at Piazalle Michelangelo and then took the slope up through the trees to reach the Basilica. A bus stop before this would have placed us right at the foot of the flight of steps leading up to the Basilica. Oh how lovely the postcard-perfect view was from atop the hill, with the skies starting to 'brazen' with the impending sunset. The crowning jewel of San Miniato affords panoramic views of Florence and the River Arno on one side of the ancient city walls and country villas on the other side and beyond. The beautiful basilica (Michelangelo's favourite church it seems) boasts a facade decorated in white and green marble geometric patterns similar to the facades of Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella. It was past 6pm when we arrived (I had underestimated the time of the bus ride) and feared I had missed the chants. But a wedding had just been conducted which meant that the chants commenced after that much to my rapturous delight. I quietly made my way into the crypt and sat quietly listening to this liturgical music and sacred song with faint thoughts of Saint Minias the martyr. Note: The toilet is located at the bottom of the flight of steps to the right at a charge.

We visited twice while we were there, the church is beautiful and they hold services at 5:30 and the monks sing at 6:30, the sunset from just below the church is beautiful

San Miniato is a beautiful, somewhat quirky church. The views of Florence are beyond belief. Take as many pics as you can - you won't regret it!

Beautiful mosaics and spectacular view! Go at sunset to hear the Gregorian chants! It is an uphill climb, but well worth it!

From this church, the view on Firenze was amazing. But the church itself was rich of historic and medieval vibes.

One of the most beautiful churches of Florence. But on a sunny day it is pitchdark when you enter and I banged my shins on the benches when you get in. So watch out for them and enjoy the mosaics and the great crypt.Plus the most gorgeous view over Florence from the steps in front of the church.

This Basilica is further up the hill from Piaza Michealangelo, and is an amazing place to come for sunset. Come a an hour or two before and enjoy the interior of the church, crypt and the graveyard which has some quirky tombstones and statues. As the light begins to go down, the shafts of light coming in through the windows make the interior of the church even more magical. You get amazing views of the city lit up by the dusky light and depending on the time of year you can even listen to the gregorian chants of the monks during the evening service

Just fantastic and has a great shop for Florentine specialty foods. Amazing views over Florence. We went at night and I think this added to the charm. Plus mass in Gregorian Chant is very atmospheric.

This church is a short walk away from Piazzale Michelangelo and offers a comparable view of the entire city - great for photos. They had nighttime vespers in progress when we went inside the basilica. The chanting, enhanced by the acoustics of the mostly marble and stone interior, was awesome.

San Miniato all Monte, overlooks Florence or rather this, the most beautiful Romanesque Church in Italy, presides over the city like a divine golden cloud descending from heaven. Its beauty is the architecture and its position. The thousand year old Romanesque Church is still in perfect form filled with art from the eleventh century to the sixteenth century reflecting the transition from medieval to Renaissance art and architecture in the most tasteful way. Then there is the view of Florence from the church which makes it perhaps the most beautiful view of any city in the world. It's absolutely worth the trek to the top of the grand marble staircase to turn and gasp at what you see. An experience nit to be missed before leaving this most beautiful city, which has no rivals anywhere in the world.

A 2 minute stroll from Michaelangelo's Balocony, but with, if possible even more breathtaking views of the city. Take time to visit this quiet corner. We missed it, but at around 5 each afternoon the monks can apparently be heard singing.

Exquisite church, with really beautiful surroundings in a marvellous position offering breathtaking views to Florence! Ideally plan your visit in the afternoon when the colours of the sunset add to the magic of the scenery!

After a nice long walk you end up next to beautiful church. In front of it a lot of Japanese wedding couples are taking pictures and their fancy Italian photographs are trying to fit them in the best Florence view.Florence view is a treat itself, especially during sunny day.You don't need to pay and you can see major architectural dominants like cathedral church or main city squares. It changes during different seasons and always keeps you in kind of a romantic mood. Sometimes it is overcrowded. Church interiors are also interesting but you wouldn't go all the way upstairs to see just them.
