Cute, small with great walls to walk around, not what you would think as they are large, wide and grassy with cyclists, tourists and runners. Good views across the town.2wanderers.com
The city walls are great for walking, cycling or running. We cycled around the walls and stopped off along the way to visit anything that took our fancy. Great views on both sides of the walls too.
If you go to Lucca, you definitely have to go to this place, perfect to walk with your SO or just by yourself to explore. Great view!
This 4km city wall is fantastic for walking, cycles, roller blades, running or just taking in the great views. Loads of access points around and it will draw you into the city for a longer look. On Saturdays there is a large market which is the life and soul of the city as everyone appears to turn up at sometime. Good for access from the rail station and it allows great views of both the city and the mountains. It it the thing everyone has to do!
There you can walk all around Lucca, it's one of the few cities where there is stll an ancient wall all around the historic center. it's nice to bike, to run or to carry out your dog.
At the renting points, they have bicycles for 1, 2, 3 and 4.It is of great fun to ride the wall. Pick your best friends and enjoy.
The walls of Lucca are a nice first way to get to know the city before diving in the narrow streets. We walked about half of the city walls. It is really quiet and you can keep in the shadow for a while on a hot sunny day. There are enough tiny streets, stairs and paths to go up or leave whenever you want. There's also benches every now and than. From the walls you have a beautiful sight into the city and gardens in and outside the city. As opposed to the narrow and sometimes busy streets and the touristic square this is a good place to enjoy something of the old Luccadays.
Lucca's wall are a great place to visit and enjoy the city. You can walk around it and have fun. Nice views from it. Attraction not to be missed,
The city of lucca is designed for the perfect bike ride. The walls are unique and beautiful and you wouldn't need more than a few hours to cover the city. The cathedrals and towers are good but similar to other italian cities. Nothing great there.
The wall around Lucca is pretty fantastic! When I initially saw it, I was excited to see what was on the other side but the coolest part was when we road our bikes all of the way around the top! The views of Lucca inside. Wall are breathtaking! Riding around the top, we were able to get a really great perspective of the ancient part of the city! We were also able to see around the outside of the wall on our ride as well! I would recommend renting bikes and taking the ride! Our hotel was outside the wall but we are looking forward to another trip there in the future!
I have studied the walls of Lucca in detail and they are fascinating as a defensive concept during their build in the 16th century . They provide a linear park for pleasure of both citizens and visitors.
The old town wall is a great spot to walk on or take a bike ride on top of it - it even has shady trees! Just loved it and great exercise after a nice lunch or dinner.Die alte Stadtmauer ist fantastisch - man kann darauf spazieren oder mit dem Rad fahren - es hat sogar Schatten unter den Baeumen! Gut als Gegenstueck zum guten Essen!
Lucca's intact wall encircling the ancient city is a defining feature of this wonderful town. The entire community (and visitors) uses it as a recreational amenity, with parks and a wide non-motorized promenade overlooking rooftops for bicycling, jogging, or a stroll.
Lucca's walls are more like earthworks than a simple barricade. The top of them is a park - a wide pathway, with trees on each side. On one side you get views of the little old town of Lucca, on the other of the Tuscan countryside. It's a nice place to have a walk or a bike ride. I found Lucca itself a bit dull for my liking, nice but no nicer than any other little historic town. The walls are its main claim to fame, and they make for a bit of a different experience in terms of walking along. You can circumnavigate the entire town this way, and see everything.
