Unluckily it was a cold grey day and therefore the lake and its shores blended with the low clouds, with not much life apart from some ducks in the water. Probably in spring or summertime much more appelaing!

We had a lovely time in Italy on Lake Bolsena .Bolsena is a beautifull town ,full of history, cobbled streets and fine restuarants .We would certainly recommend the area

What to say. The journey to Bolsena is interesting to say the least as the roads do not appear to have suffered much maintenance of late! Jokes aside, you definitely need a car. The scenery is quite spectacular and when you crest the hills and look down on this beautiful lake - well worth the time to visit. Somehow a place a little out of time. Relaxing here is easy. You can swim in the lake as there is ZERO waste run off into it. There is a marina with boats bobbing up and down on the glistening water. I wanted to hop into one and sail around the lake slowly taking in the awesome scenery. Sadly my teenagers and my father were not of the same mind as they were all VERY hungry!. So we went off looking for a restaurant. Prices across the board seemed pretty reasonable here and as you would expect fish is prominent on all the menus. In fact if you don't like either Lake or Sea fish you might have to walk around a little more to find yourself somewhere where there is sufficient range on the menu for you whole party to eat what they want. The people are very friendly and helpful, and much appreciative of any efforts to speak Italian to them. If you have the time you may want to drive around the lake and drop in at the many quaint and picturesque villages on the shores. Such clean fresh air too.

Charming bit of Italy unspoiled by modernism. Relaxing out of season but much busier in summer! A bit off the beaten path (car highly recommended), but that is what makes it unique. Do not expect much English (at all) to be spoken here, and keep in mind that Bolsena is very much on "Italian time", so just unwind, relax, and enjoy.

Great location for a holiday. Much less commercialised than other parts of Italy and could be comparable to anything the amalfi coast offers. Great restaurants and pizzerias around which catered perfectly to our vegetarian tastes. Very budget friendly as well.

After 4 hours in Bolsena I didn't want to go back to Rome. It was so quiet and wonderfull. I got so relaxe.

We stopped by Bolsena by car on a Sunday afternoon, and did not really expect that much. Instead we were greatly charmed by the medieval town, the beautiful churches, the clean water, and the town up and about on a Sunday afternoon. We walked the promenade which in June were fully of peonies and flowers. We had a quick gelato and dipped in the clean water up up to our knees. We wished we had our suits for swimming.

Only spent a couple of hours here after visiting nearby Civita Di Bagnoregio. We parked down by the lakeside (plenty of parking) and ended up in a lakeside bar sitting on the beach....it was really quiet and peaceful...only wish we could have stayed all day! I'm sure it will be much busier as the season progresses but we thought it would make a lovely place to stay, as a base, to explore the surrounding area. Will definitely make the effort to return!

After exploring the quaint streets of the old town you can visit the museum, castle and the wonderful Basilica of Saints George and Christina. Lots of bars, restaurants and shops. Plenty of parking around the town and near the lake. Definitely worth a stroll down to the lake shore and take a walk along the promenade.

Friends and I took a short bike trip to lake bolsena. Quant town with amazing views. Great food choices, shopping and a castle to see. Boat tours, biking around the lake or just a lazy day by the lake.

Lake Bolsena was a great experience. We went yesterday during a scorching Thursday, it was 37 degrees. It wasn't too crowded and it was nice and peaceful. There are beach bars and ice cream bars everywhere so you can never go hungry/thirsty. The water is lovely and warm, just make sure you get to a bit where there aren't too many stones. And beware of Italian girls staring at rocks and thinking they're fish - it's kind of hilarious.
