I didn't expect to find such an ecclesiastically historical small town although I had passed by so many times on my way to Austria

A unique place to visit while touring the South Tyrol area. The GPS could hardly find it, but they are brown signs directing you to the monastery. There are guided tours of the monastery complex if you speak Italian or German. It is a 1 hour tour. This monastery exists here more than 850 years, and some parts of it do have the "old look". The library is very impressive, with more than 20,000 hand-written books. Some books are open on display under glass, so the visitors can appreciate the "art of writing", many centuries ago. When we came, there was a Jazz Trio playing in the courtyard' part of a regional Jazz Festival. There are some Bars and restaurants that serve light meals. A new visitors shop is open offering the local wine, cheeses and other goods.

strollingthrough this ageold monastery was quite an experience. The shop offers a range of locally produced wines, confitures, soaps... worth a visit!

Beautiful landscapes and tasty wine! Go on guided tour to look at well-preserved icons in the museum and don't miss the wine tasting! If you prefer red wines you have to try Lagrein)

A place full of history and beauty well worth a visit. They produce fantastic wines! it is in one of the bet and more scenic areas of Sud Tyrol

Kloster Neustift is located in a beautiful part of northern Italy, near the Italian Alps. Our tour guide was a sommelier and did a great job of explaining the process of growing grapes, making wine and tasting wine. We had shuttlebrot, speck and cheese with our wine tasting. (It was enough for a meal). A beautiful setting and very good wine!

Worthwile to go there. Gives you an idea of the life in this region. Visit the shop with authentic and homemade products. Specialty: herbal tea and lavender face cream.

Unapalmera

It is located in a valley close to Brixen. The monastery is surrounded by apple trees and gardens. It has very clear explanations about the history of the monastery. If one is in the area, it should visit it for a couple of hours.

Beautifully kept up old Abby and now used as a conference center as well as for making wines. I understand the gardens are sensational but can only be viewed by appointment. The setting is wonderful.

Walked here - unpleasant and hot walk crisscrossing traffic. Interesting place, but you have to take a guided tour that is not very informative. A couple of interesting objects in the library. Avoid the bar restaurant, there is a much better one in front of the return bus stop. Only come if you are nearby and have a car.

Wonderful place to stay a couple of days. The scenery is peaceful and surrounded with vineyards. You can go mountain biking and/or hiking. You have a little lake 2-3 hours mountain hiking from the Abbey - Vahrener See. The view that you encounter during the hiking is spectacular. Besides visiting the Kloster you can have just besides its walls a nice ice-cream with raspberries sauce (Heisse Liebe) at the Kloster's cantina.A place you can really chill out and forget about your crowded city!

My review is a bit of a swizz as we missed the guided tour of the Abbey because of heavy traffic around Bolzano. There was no second chance, so we self-guided instead. It's an extremely pleasant place with lovely frescos in the cloisters and a view into the spectacularly ornate church (though I often wonder why churches need to have so much money spent on them when it could be better used to alleviate suffering etc etc blah blah). But the real question on our lips was "when does our wine tasting begin" - as that was the real reason for our visit. The tasting itself was just OK, with only 4 wines offered. The wines were just about OK, nothing to write home about. However, the food was wonderful - speck, Kaminwurzen, Schuttelbrot and other stuff which made it the perfect way to taste wine/have lunch in delightful surroundings.A real touch of the Sudtirol and just right for someone more into food than religion.

And once you are through with the "spiritual" visit have a look at the store and then take a walk up the valley to the sand pyramids.

Beautiful cloister which dates back to the middle ages, combines various building styles and trends throughout the centuries, great historic library and unique church. You can enter only with a guide, but it's definitely worth spending a few Euros for seeing the interior!
