The square is so beautiful, i can associate the houses with gingerbread christmas cookies. Very different from the rest of the city. Beautiful at daylight and night time.
I would have expected the Town Hall square to be a hive of activity, but it wasn't; there was barely a soul to be seen. The House of Blackheads is located here too, so again I thought it would be a much more popular place, with little cafes and market stalls.
It was clouded and a bit grey the day I was there, but I bet i looks even better on a sunny day! Worth seeing, and do pay attention to all the details in the buildings and surroundings - its great!
You can enjoy walking around here during Summer. Highly not recommended during the winter, it's super slippery!
Completely rebuilt after World War II, the Town Hall Square is surrounded by several interesting buildings (i.e. the famous Blackheads House) and museums. Also the tourism information centre is here: perfect place to start your visit of Riga
Yes, you have seen pictures of it but nothing can prepare you for how cute this place really is. The buildings are all different and sooo elaborate. Plenty of angles to take pictures from.
the architecture in the square is amazing a must for photographers, on the corner of the square is the tourist sight seeing busses which for 15 euros gives you a two day hop on hop off option and is well worth the money.the square is opposite the river and its bridges.
The square is very live in summer, people walking or eating lunch in old city. Of cource tourist's as well but also very alive with local people. Riga old city is special, colourful, live and a good place to stay for the hole day.
Must see at night as the colours really stands out. Better at night than during the day. St peters church just around the corner
The buildings looks very nice, especially during the night. Be sure to have a look and take some nice pictures:) By the time I visited the square (Dec. 2014) there were two man-sized picture frames where you could fit into the frame and get the two buildings beside you, very nice!
As like all of Riga the town hall square is amazing. The beauty of the buildings the old trams that trundle along around the city are so beautiful.
The old town and the square were so pretty and very festive, puts us to shame. The market was beautiful and sold lots of homemade good, albeit a little expensive. We were very lucky to have aslight sprinkle of snow which made it web that little bit more special. streets are all cobbles, do leave your high heels at home.
Being there itself was a big surprise and i was lucky to spend my time there with my friends. Eventhough it was a small place, but fantastic to be present there and look around to have a pleasure on a tiring day.
I wandered around alone and at night with no one bothering me. With the Christmas tree it's simply beautiful and only a stones throw away from the rest of the Old Town. It's all quite compact so you can soon get around all the sights.
In this square centuries meet. Knight Roland from whose sword they use to measure all distances to other towns in Latvia; Blackheadhouse - reborn again, one of the few examples of mannerism architecture (currently it is official president's office, thus unavailable for vistors), and totally out of time - building of former occupation museum (wich currently is relocated to former US embassy building on Raina blvd.)
