I walked to this magnificent cathedral on the last sunday in Nov. It was not difficult at all to locate it as its' tall spires dominate the city skyline of Olomouc and i could see it from far. It was not really a perfect timing to visit the cathedral especially there is Sunday religious services ongoing, and to be culturally sensitive, you just do not take photos and respect the events ongoing. However it was still a amazing short stay in the cathedral to have a peaceful moment even though I did not understand the Czech language.
Mother Maria Teresa & Pope had been, a saint is buried there & the walls and pillars are painted in a geometric pattern.Definitely worth a visit
It is a very nice stroll from the town hall but been Olomouc so nice and picturesque it is worth the walk whatever you are catholic or not. More impressive outside than inside
Our visit to this impressive cathedral was made even more interesting by the guide who showed us round and explained everything- this was free.
While studying Czech at the local university, I attended several music concerts in this beautiful with surprisingly nice acoustics. What a gem!
The cathedral is an important seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Olomouc. Four of the archbishops are buried there in the crypt. There is also the heart of Habsburg archduke and archbishop Rudolf Johann Josef Rainer, cardinal von Habsburg-Lothringen.He died on 24 July 1831 in Baden bei Wien at the age of 43 and was interred in the Imperial Crypt in Vienna. He was a pupil, freind and also benefactor of Ludwig van Beethoven. He founded and financed the Vitkovice Steel factory. You can also see the exhibition about the popes John XXII and John Paul II. The entrance fee is voluntary.
Impressive medieval cathedral. At night when the city fades, garden under the building is completely immersed in age-old.
Do see the cathedral while in Olomouc. The day we visited a delightful young guide gave us a private tour of the main altar and side altars. Don't forget to visit the crypt downstairs to see display of John Paul II's visit.
We toured the cathedral and our hosts for the week in Olomouc had arranged for a mini-organ concert. Wonderful cathedral to visit and a fantastic organ. Highly suggested.
Very impressive Cathedral, with very friendly guides who are happy to tell you a little history of the place and take you into the presbytery. The organ was being played while I was visiting, a very nice touch!
It is a cathedral well worth the time to visit it has so much to see and a history that is linked with that of the country
Not sure what else you are going to see that will top this in Olomouc. Beautiful cathedral, with a interesting history. Both Pope john Paul II and Mother Teresa took the time out to visit this holy place, there are also the partial remains of Saint John Sarkander on show - he was tortured to death in a nearby chapel, which was then a prison.
While you are in Olomouc go see their cathedral, you will get to see, how smaller Czech towns did in comparison to Prague.
The temp was 38 every day i was in Olomouc - i can highly recommend this place as a cool, refreshing and relaxing spot out of the heat!
You feel the Gothic time atmoshere everywhere around you. It must be great to experience a concert in this place
