I like this zoo a lot. I grew up visiting the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE (top 3 in the US) so I have high expectations. This zoo is up in the hills so it gives you a nice rural feel, and the restaurant across the street has excellent Czech food!
Zoo is easily accessible by local bus (no. 11, going from main railway station - 'Hlavní nádraží' it takes 20 minutes). The whole area of the ZOO is in the forest, so it is a very nice walk even in summer heat. Animals are well kept.
The zoo surprised me in a sense of well kept animal areas n animals having enough space to walk around. The animals in there dont looked stressed out, sick or not taken care of. Also the animals get fed very well. This place would be very nice to go with family n kids but when going there be prepared that the zoo space is huge so u must do a lot of walking. N if u r coming thr using public transport u must plan ur timing in the zoo very well as by the time u gotta leave u might be very far away from the zoo exit
Right after Zlin and Prague zoo this one is best in Czech republic. Its large , nice , clean with shops and toilets inside. Fun for whole family for one day.
When years ago I commuted by train to college and saw the silhouette of the church high above the city, knowing that soon I'll be home already. I had no idea that one day I would live here.Svatý Kopeček is a historic city, urban area in the northeast of the City Olomouc. This significant natural dominant of Olomouc is used as a recreational place of Olomouc and since 1952 there is the Olomouc ZOO. The Holy Hill is primarily the monumental Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. The history of the pilgrimage place on the Saint Hill begins in the 17th century, during the Thirty Years War in Europe. Jan Andrysek, a wine dealer, promised that when he got rich he would build a church for the Virgin Mary. He forgot this, but the Virgin Mary appeared to him in his dreams. One day he was in a snowstorm that stopped just as he got on a hill. It was the place from his dream and he remembered his promise. He marked this place and went home, where he found that the owners of this place were premonsterates, a church order of monks. The church was built in the 17th and early 18th century, in the Baroque style. The 'Holy stairs' in front of the church, leading towards an alley of old trees in the direction to the city serve us as a reminder of 28 stairs in the Pilatus´s Jerusalem palace, which Jesus had to climb before his sentence to death. John Paul II honoured Svatý Kopeček by his visit in 1995, and in the same year the Church of the Visitation of Our Lady was given the title “basilica minor”. The settlement Svatý Kopeček is situated at the foot of the Lowe Jeseník, at an altitude of 382 meters above sea level . This part of Olomouc away from its center 8 km became the most popular tourist and pilgrimage destination in the region. Because of its location, diversity of terrain with beautiful forests, valleys, streams and rivers offer ideal conditions for sports and recreation. The area is linked to a number of routes for walking ,cycling and cross country skiing . You can varied a trip to Svatý Kopeček visiting of ZOO.Traditionally, this Christmas there was a rich program- Exhibition of nativity scenes, Christmas concert in the Basilica, the museum in the cloisters of the Basilica , Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, Christmas Evening tours ZOO, Christmas tree for animals and other attractions. Our usual trip to Svatý Koeček often associate with a visit to a restaurant „U Macka“, which is near the basilica and ZOO. This restaurant is known for its outstanding Czech home cooking.Svatý Kopeček is one of the most attractive areas of the Olomouc region, with pleasant environment, ancient monuments and numerous sports facilities . I can recommend you warmly visit this place.
You can walk around a little bit. The whole ZOO is in the middle of forest. They have a wide variety of animals from birds, bats to tigers, water aquariums, giraffes and many more. There is a nice little kiosk in the middle with a tower that offers apart from a good 5 minutes of exercise also a spectacular 360 degree view. They have no elephants but the ZOO is still worth the visit. And I forgot there is also a nice inside outside restaurant located close to the exit area.
Worth visiting as combined trip too see the beautiful basilic on top of the hill, which on a clear day you can get a good view of Olomouc and its surroundings. The zoo is in the forest and the animals have vast space in their enclosures.
The zoo is well layed out and they have a good assortment of animals. Some of the enclosures look old and too small for the number of animals. It seems they are addressing the issue with building work underway.
you have to walk a lot to see the animals. there is an unique church just next to this ZOO
Lovely zoo , had an amazing time there only thing was it took 1 hour from my hotel , but was worth is !they have to offer and the Olomouc Zoo stands out.
We travel in Czech Republic with young kids, so we've seen just about every zoo they have to offer and the Olomouc Zoo stands out. They've got a good selection of animals kept in responsible enclosures. They are world-renown for their work breeding Rothschild Giraffes. The bat exhibit and the monkey areas both let you walk right in with the animals. A great kids climbing and activity area was installed in 2009. Best of all, the zoo is mostly shaded and set on a steep ravine, so it's a very interesting place to walk that's very cool on hot summer days.Sure, you may be visiting Czech Republic for cultural enrichment and Unesco submersion. But who doesn't like a good zoo?The zoo is about 15 minutes northeast of Olomouc downtown -- just past Svaty Kopacek (the big white church on the hill).
Vielen Dank dennoch
Pěkný výlet do olomoucké zoo mi znepříjemnilo parkování.
