The most wondeful place I have visited. Highly recommended. The tour with a guide lasts around 1 hour (cave + boat + train back to administration). Cost in Jan.2015 was 14 lari. This summer they are planning to open kind of speleodiving. Should be a great adventure:-)How to get there: from Kutaisi mini bus station in city centre in Nino str. take the "marshrutka" no. 34 to Tskaltubo (approx. 20 - 30 min. 1 GEL) / no. 44 from McDonalds / no. 30 from Red Bridge. Goes every 10-15 minutes. Go till the last stop. Then pass the big building and the market (don't affraid seeing the big urgly wall - that's the market:-)) Behind the market is a bus station. There take the bus no. 42 to Prometheus Cave. Goes quite often in seasonal time. Be aware that is winter time the bus might not go (as I experienced). Then there are two options: take a taxi for 5 lari or go by bus no. 17, which will drop you out near the sign to the Cave. Then you will go on your own about few km. Returing back: ask administration to call a taxi or try to ask other visitors (if you are lucky). Seasonal time - bus no. 42.Big regards and huge thanks to Dato;-)

Amazing, colorful, breathtaking... I can't explain the beauty of this place by words (and photos are not enough), you have to see it!

Massive, just huge! I mean - literally cavernous!OK, so the piped music was a bit cheesy, and the coloured lighting. But I wouldn't have it any other way! The path is cut out of the mud floor, and concreted, so you stay clean. it's quite cool inside, so a jacket would be a good thing to take.By no means claustrophobic, its a spectacular journey in geological time! It's quite long too, so be prepared for a long-ish walk. Pay for the little underground electric boat trip at the end!

It is a long stalactite cave, very colorful and with an option to a boat trip at the end.If you never saw before a Stalactite cave, you will be impressed. Kids will love it, and the boat tour is a nice ending.

Visiting Prometheus Cave is a must. It's not that far from Kutaisi and can be easily reached by taxi.I highly recommend to buy the extended tour, which includes a boat voyage. It's worth of spent monies.

Brilliant find. The 1.400 metre long trail through 6 holes are stunning. The place is well lit, airy and stunning. The changing colours a bit kitsch but still the caves are impressive

The Cave of Prometheus (Kumistavi Cave) is located near Kutaisi. This 1,600-meter-long cave was discovered in 1984. For several decades, one of the locals was guarding it from vandals. There is a monument to him and his dog near the exit of the cave.In 2010, the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili visited the cave, ordered to arrange a tourist site here and offered the name, Prometheus Cave. It is believed that the mythological hero Prometheus was chained to the mountains around this area on a mountain of khuamliFrom all the caves we've ever seen, this one has the most beautiful illumination. At the end of the hiking trail you can continue on a boat, just buy an extra ticket at the cash desk.Unlike in many European caves, you can take photos here. Getting there: The nearest large city is Kutaisi. From Kutaisi you need to go by minibus. It's much more convenient to travel by taxi directly from Kutaisi. The cave is not working on Monday. From November to April - from 10 am to 5 pm, from May to August from 10 am to 6 pm, in September and October from 10 am to 5:30 pm. The ticket costs $3.3, the boat trip costs $4.

This cave experience in on par with any other cave experience, maybe even better because of the boat ride. Huge rooms. A really long, big cave well worth the trip. Guide spoke excellent English. The boat ride is definitely worth it!

Having seen many caves in my life, I admit that this was one of the most spectaculour, both in size and details of all the halls. Also had the opportunity to do an boat ride in the cave on an underground river.

I have never seen anything like that. It is much longer and offers far more stalagmites and stalactites than the Doolin cave in Ireland. You cannot miss it...the lights, the forms that resemble human beings and animals...wow! There is a guide to take you through the cave and at the end you can take a very short trip by boat or walk to the exit. From there you are transported back to the ticket office. The guide spoke English, Russian and Georgian

Visiting the Prometheus caves is a nice activity near Kutaisi, and something different than visiting another beautiful monastry. The trip is well organised and boat trip is recommended, as a nice end to the walk underground. Yes, the sign says it is 800 steps, but do not be put off by this number as we (family with children ages 7-11) did not encounter any troubles, nor did the other, more senior Georgian travelers that joined our group.

Entering the cave seemed like entering some place magical where pixies and gnomes live. It is really a huge cave with amazing speleothems. The tour guide was also helpful and informative. The boat experience was FUNtastic!Cave entrance with tour guide is GEL 7.00+ Boat ride (to exit the cave) is GEL 7.00 - optional

The sizes of this cave is unbelievable! Colorful lamps made it look very magic) There is inside 5 giant rooms and cave river which u need to swim over sitting in the boat with motor. Great place!
