A quite lovely chateau that is worth 2 hours of anyone's time. 6 of us, all adults, arrived at noon on Sunday and it was open all day. It was a showery day with few visitors, so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. This building was put up on a blank field in 8 years from 1542, and has been through various hands after the initial owners. It has now been rescued by a financial institution who are doing a great job of restoring it. We were given an informative card and left to wander around ourselves, which was lovely as you could really relax, absorb the atmosphere and enjoy the beautiful rooms. The floor of the large salon is fantastic. It is all of a piece and highly recommended.

When we visited it was just after lunch (yes they have the 2hr lunch break so watch your timings12-2)The place was quiet so we could spend time looking at the ornately decorated roomsthere are also quite extensive gardens to wander around

Cool and simple tour. Extensive gardens but picnics not allowed. Impressive interior. Not busy on the day we went, luckily.

This chateau is a must see if you are in this part of Burgundy. We had a great afternoon while touring the beautiful chateau and grounds. The high quality restoration gives the ability for one to be able to imagine what it was truly like in its glory days. Beautiful floors, murals, design and furnishings along with a good audio guide.

We visited on a sunny day with our 2 children (aged 9 and 7). The gardens are just beautiful, with a large lake and wonderful views. Found the chateau itself underwhelming. Very welcoming and a guide was available in English. There was also the opportunity for the kids to dress up if they wanted. The rooms on the first floor have been restored and there is some stunning decoration on walls / ceilings. Paintings and furniture however are less interesting and there wasn't really any sense of story or history about it.....nothing about who lived there or what life might really have been like. The ground floor is still being restored.

Alright, it's a bit pricey, but the ceilings, floors and walls are pretty spectacular and cruising round at your own speed with the handout is not boring after all.While in the area, don't miss the ecluse (lock on the Burgundy canal) at Argentenay. The lock-keeper is a naïf artist in cloth and fibreglass and the giraffe, storks etc are great. Don't you love outdoor art?!

The architecture and history is phenomenal. The Grounds are manicured with distinction. The tour guides are very well informed.

White-stone chateau, built around a lovely central courtyard. Curiously you aren't allowed to visit only the garden - which I thought the best part with paths and lake and little mini chateau. The chateau itself is oddly cold, masses of rooms one goes through, a bit like a very long history lesson, room after room. It has been very well restored, and a tremendous amount of work carried out which is wonderful to see.

A fascinating tour with headsets to guide you in any language you desire. Definitely learned some French history!

Most French Chateaux are very showy and in your face. Ancy is very restrained. You get the feeling that visitors are almost a surprise. The layout of the rooms is what you would expect with historically appropriate portraits and furnishings. What is bizarre is the placing of papier-mache figures, human and animal and of disproportianate size, in most of the rooms. There are small dogs and very large milkmaids. Perhaps they won't be there when you visit. Shaded parking is straight off the road to Montbard at the end of the village.

This is a really stunning piece of classical architecture. You get to see many of the rooms, and there are some wonderful ceilings. Our guide was informative and happy to drop into English occasionally.

After visiting the Loire Valley we thought we might be chateaued out, but Chateau d'Ancy le Franc delighted us. A very good written guide in English leads you through the beautifully restored parts of the Chateau. No crowds, go at your own pace through the rooms on the first floor filled with history and beautiful architecture. Definitely worth an hour or so of your time.

What a pleasure it is to tour at one's own pace admiring the restiration of such a fine chateau - especially with four young children. That was a very helpful option - especially after having visited Tanlay Chateau hours earlier.Each room in Ancy Le Franc offers a glimpse into the history of time, place and people. Highly recommended for architecture, decor and history.
