We were staying locally so decided to visit this tower. Because of security issues, you first need to visit the Town Hall reception desk. They then phone through and tell the doorkeeper to the Beffroi that you're on your way.It was cold and a little cloudy when we visited so we almost had the place to ourselves. There's a limit to the number of people allowed up at any one time, so it's probably best to get there early. Ideally choose a day when visibility is good. The member of staff in the Town Hall was honest about the fact that visibility wasn't great but we still decided to go.We chose to use the stairs both ways. The views were OK - I'd hoped to see the old town from the top but it's too far away to see it. Much of what you can see clearly nearby isn't all that interesting!
€6 to go to the top. Quite a few straight stairs and then there is a lift. Step out of the lift and there is a 360º view through rather dirty windows. Best to climb a few more steps to the terrace for clear views through a metal grid. It is very enclosed so you have no fear of falling. The mesh is large enough to poke a camera lens through. From there you have nice views of the city although many interesting landmarks are a long way away. Best on a sunny day when the sun is high. I suggest you pass on the audio guide. It was not that informative, and mine stopped working half way through the pre-set "points", although to be fair I was given a replacement. There is not much to see if you walk back down the stairs. I rate this 3½ stars. COMMENT: Going to the top of the commerce tower near Grand Place would give far better views. Pity we can't do that!
The title gives you one of the main reasons to visit the Belfry. The view is good but there aren't many interesting things to see. There is some interesting information on your walk down. I'd recommend going for the free visit but probably not paying.
Nice 360° view over the city, maybe a little bit expensive (€6). To you to decide if you want to spend this...
After a couple a flights of stairs there was thankfully a lift up the other 100 metres or so; excellent all-round open and enclosed views. We walked down the 300 stairs; there are notice boards on the floors, worth reading.
Great views over city. You can get to the top either by lift or climbing the steps. The guide speaks very good English.
The first few floors are a bit difficult for us old-timers but there is a lift fthat takes you up to the viewing gallery and when you get there the effort seems worth it. There is a magnificent view for miles across the city and surrounding area. It's great to see the tops and rears of the old buildings and at 4 euro each well worth the money.
Thought we had to walk all the way up, but luckily after 3 floors of stairs there was a lift to the top and the lift person was very knowledgeable about Lille's history. The view was amazing, especially as it was a lovely blue cloud day. not far from the hotel, either
Simple and easy to make a comment. If You want to have the best view over lille yes this is the place to visit, make a visit and You Will enjoy it.fun to take the old style lift up
We paid our Euro4 for a group visit. There is a lift to the top for those that need it. Otherwise a lot of repetitive concrete steps to the viewing gallery at the top.We did it only because there are so few attractions in Lille.
There you can have a great view of the city. It's also free every first Wednesday of the month, so you can think about saving 6 euros
A relatively recent construction, early 1920s, in concrete providing spectacular views over Lille and the surrounding areas. Really only worth going on a clear day.
If the weather is on your side, this is the place to visit. Fantastic views for miles across Lille. Bad weather would not be a good time to go up the 300+ stairs (but there is a lift for 200 or so steps) but in the fine weather, you could not get a better place to go. The staff were very helpful and cheerful and it costs €6 each. Well worth it in the right conditions.
I never miss an opportunity to take in panoramic views and get a higher view of the cities I visit!! I truly enjoyed the views from the top of the Beffroi and recommend a visit here! The big advantage of the Beffroi is that should you want to avoid climbing so many stairs, there is an elevator inside (only after you do climb the first 100 stairs) that will take you the remaining journey to the top! Was nice to not have to walk down once I opted to climb to the top!
So glad we stumbled upon this. A wedding is taking place when we were there as it is connected to the court house. Only can take elevator up or down, not both included in ticket. I was having knee issues that day so was disappointed.
