2nd time in Warsaw and both times we have ventured into the old town, we have found this a good place to just stand and take in some of the surroundings. Nice view across the river on a clear day, where you can see the newish stadium that was built for the European Championships a few years ago.It also acts as a good meeting point if you are in a group and need to meet up at any time. There was a protest about Ukraine going on at the weekend, with a few people brandishing Ukranian and Russian flags, but was very peaceful from what we saw.
Together with Rynek Starego Miasta (Old Town Square), the most beautiful square in Warsaw. The Royal Palace is surrounded by colorful medieval houses. It was entirely rebuilt after the Nazi-Germans destroyed Warsaw during World War II. On the square, you also have a very nice view on the National Football Stadium of Poland.
Looking at castle square now and seeing the before and after pictures makes this a must see. Also it is a meeting point for many of the free tours.
Worth a look gives an overall idea of the place and is a good meeting spot. Enjoyed the aspect of this area.
Amazing place to have a walk in Warsaw! An old castle and buildings mixed with a modern cafe, horse riding, lots of museums and gift shops. This place is always busy with tourists, local people, and different shows.
We really enjoyed this area. There is many attractions to visit within walking distance and lot cost restaurants as well.
It gets hard to find enough adjectives to qualify monuments and buildings in Warsaw. At least in the old part of town everything is pretty and colorful, just look at the red in this buildings, you will learn if you ask that most of this was rebuilt after the WWII so everything looks kind of new, but the simple fact everything was rebuilt as it previously was it's pretty impressive in itself. Just wander around, take pictures, find a cafe or restaurant and grab some food.
This square is right at the heart of the city. From here you can enter the old city, which is a must see when you are in Warsaw. Walk the other direction and you enter the nowy swiat which leads you to the new city centre. The nowy swiat is also a must see street, with a lot of nice buildings (presedential palace, university etc.).
Many opportunties to take excellent pictures. The castle is newer thatn the old forticifications but still offers nice sights.
This is a really big square with a net of small streets of old town. There always are lots of people walking around. A small market is located next to the castle.
I was here twice (first time at spring). And second time (30th of December) there was an amazing weather (few degrees below zero, snow and clear sky). Illumination of the Royal castle is amazing! Just see some photos:
This square is wonderful during the Christmas season. The area is replete with holiday lights and the centerpiece is a spectacular several stories high Christmas tree with changing light patterns and huge lighted presents underneath. It is a hub area, with the old, town and Rynek on one side, Nowy Swiat on another, and the entrance to the Christmas market a few steps away. The entrance to the Royal Palace is just off the square. Not to be missed during this festive season, and probably all year long.
If you go to the Old Town in Warsaw, you will be in Plac Zamkowy. It is where the old castle is, and your hostel or hotel or business trip or anything will inevitably lead you there. It is a beautiful square with food everywhere, it is where all of the tours start, and it is at the end of the most famous street in Warsaw. Go during the day, do a walking tour, and go again at night when everything is lit up. There is currently (Dcemember 2014) a big Christmas tree in the square, and an ice rink in the old town square a block away. Make sure you go here. THERE IS ALSO A FREE BATHROOM INSIDE!Be prepared for many Roma to ask you for money for the record. Just tell them no (or give them something small if you feel so inclined) and they'll quickly leave you alone.
On Dec. 6, the lights on the large Christmas tree were turned on. The start of the illumination marks the opening of the Christmas season.
We here was at day and evening,so if you want see Christmas tree, better go in evening. Nearly castle squere working Christmas market(hot wine was amazing).
