Excellent art gallery set in a rural setting which you could add on to a trip to Glenveagh National park if you wish as it is quite near it. This was originally built to house the works of Derek Hill the artist but combines other contributors as well and they have quite a few events on indoor and outdoor weather permitting during the year. It is only about 20 minutes from Letterkenny and well signposted. You will also pass Gartan Lake which unfortunately has a supply of Midges who may follow you around the outside of the gallery on humid days.

This is definitely worth a visit. Lovely historical house with fantastic gallery. There is also lots of lovely areas for picnics, so it's the perfect place to make a day trip to.

With friends we visited this wonderful house. We were shown around by Jean who is a simply terrific guide. Having known and spent time with Derek Hill she has dozens of great stories which illustrate his life and work. She really is a huge bonus for any visitor. The choice of work on show is fascinating and gives a wonderful glimpse into the world of Irish and English artists in the 20th Century. And the decor of the house is inspirational stuff. A visit to this house should be on the list for anyone interested in the life of a 20th Century artist and a real bargain at 3 euros! After the visit we went to the delightful tea room which sells very tasty cakes and snacks. Also worth adding to the itinerary!

Beautiful place for picnic. Went here on Heritage day so was a lot to see and do (music/storytelling/face painting for the childer). Gallery was not open but would be normally at other times. Usually they have good exhibitions worth a look.

Visited this place last week following walk to Glenveagh National Park. It is amazing. If you get a chance have Jean show you around. She is brilliant at bringing this house and home come to life from the start at the front door seeing Derek Hill's portable easel, his portraits, his kitchen and his bedroom to his guest bedroom. You can even rummage around in Derek Hill's wardrobe and see his eclectic collection of art from around the world. A truly memorable experience with an interesting exhibition of the work of Patrick Scott including a video on his use of gold in his artwork. For the price of 3 Euros this is an absolute gem of a place to visit.

This is not too far from Glenveagh National Park. The museum is in a Georgian era house once owned by artist Derek Hill. Not only was he a painter but also a great supporter of other artists, a true renaissance man. Do not miss the house tour. That's where all the truly great art is. There is also a rotating exhibition next door. Plus the location itself is beautiful with lovely grounds next to a picturesque river

Glebe House and Gallery can truly be described as one of the main highlights of County Donegal.In Glebe House there is a permanent collection of paintings by former owner Derek Hill, but also works by Kokoshka, Renoir or Picasso are charmingly displayed. Also very impressive are the 'sea scapes' of Tory Island painter James Dixon.In the adjoining gallery there was a temporary exhibition of the works of Patrick Scott: Image Space Light. It was a retrospective because Scott died in February of this year.Though I didn't know the man and his paintings, the collection was a pleasant and interesting acquaintance for me.Fascinating man, on one hand designer for big firms like Bus Eireann and on the other hand peace activist in his later days, with his paintings about bombing and explosions. And always exploring the Irish culture.After the visit to the museum and gallery I enjoyed a nice walk in the garden around Glebe House, and it seemed to me that this garden looked like a piece of art in its own right.In this region of Donegal you can also visit Glenveagh National Park or walk around Loch Gartan, or visit the little village of Churchill.

We firstly visited the Gallery which had an excellent Scott exhibition on , then we went to the coffee shop for a cup of tea , scones and cake which was lovely , homemade fresh and good value. We then did a tour of the house - an amazing collection of art and memorbelia ..Picasso's , Renoir's and naturally some amazing Derek Hill paintings! Our Guide around the house was excellent ! Well worth a visit

Just like a previous reviewer suggested - this was one of those places that completely catches you by surprise. We arrived early and found we almost had the place to ourselves. We took a walk in the garden which was beautifully arranged and runs down to a lake renowned for its fishing. The house itself is the big attraction here- It is only 3 euros per person for a tour which we considered a bargain as it was one of the best tours we have did in Ireland. The house is full of fantastic and eclectic paintings and objets d'art (Picasso to Renoir originals) and each piece tells the extraordinary story of Derek Hills (the owner and painters) life. You feel like you know him by the end. The guide was amazing with obvious love for the place and superb knowledge of every piece. We came out of Glebe gallery talking about it for hours afterwards - highly recommended. (Amazing staff throughout)

This is one of those delightful surprises which make Donegal so special. Very helpful and well-informed staff. Don't miss the tour of the house - admission is remarkably inexpensive. It's a sort of time capsule of the life of society portrait painter, Derek Hill. He knew everybody there was to know in the '60's and '70's. He also encouraged the school of Tory Island Painters. The menu in the cafe is a bit limited but the friendly staff make up for that!

Beautiful house,I love the grounds,Colm the guide was excellent .I just loved everything about this experience and top it off great coffee and cake served by Linda who had such a lovely manner and was so friendly.

The gallery and coffee shop were both closed - and there was no time to wander through the extensive grounds, only to note, in passing, the 100-year-old tree (oak?) - so I saw only the house. I like to see what decor and furnishings individual artists choose to live amongst and Glebe House, left intact when the artist moved to another property nearby, proved a real eye-opener ... but visitors will have to see it all for themselves! The guided tour appeared to take us into every room, downstairs and upstairs, and our guide was most enthusiastic and knowledgeable - but I should have liked to have been able to spend much more time in each room, examining the pictures and personal effects at leisure, there was so much to absorb! I appreciate, however, that the public cannot be allowed to wander unhindered amongst the little treasures.

Unfortunately this was closed until 31st May but we did walk round the garden and down to the lakeside lovely views and the house is beautiful from the outside!!

Lovely,peaceful place by the loch. Nice butties and cakes. Drive back and go to Callaghans in Church Hill and see the lovely turf fire with Kathleen

Glebe gallery is a vista where you can go to enjoy the house, its paintings, the galleria, the coffee shop and its wonderful garden and lake. Its in an ideal location of peace and tranquillity.
