I have recently just visited here and I thought that it was great. The staff at Tropical world are all very friendly and helpful. There are all different kinds of animals which are all quite interesting. There is great facts which are all clearly displayed and easy to read. They have some members of staff doing various demonstrations, which includes holding a large millipede. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Tropical World and would definitely go back to it for another visit.
The butterfly sanctuary is beautiful. Lots of animals in their mini zoo too! Definitely would recommend a visit to others.
Tropical word is really worth a visit especially if you have children unfortunately it was closed in February and doesn't open until end March. Don't miss a visit to this exciting venue I have been a few times
I have brought the kids a couple of times to Tropical World. They love the butterfly area. Some huge butterflies beautiful to look at. They have alots of other animals, insects and sometimes they have staff doing demonstration and you can hold eg a giant millaped
Went on a recommendation from a friend with my 2 sons aged 9 & 7. A really great unexpected day out. Loved the free flying butterflies. The animals were interesting.I would recommend you go when there is opportunity to hold and touch some animals eg spider, frogs etc. check in advance by phoning. There is also a really nice coffee shop that serves fab cake!!!
Not like me - but I am going to keep this short and sweet....brilliant food, home cooked, top quality, customer service - I can only describe as exceptional.......was in the establishment last Friday, and the roads were pretty bad, but the place was packed!!! Testament to its consistent approach to quality. A great touch was the fact that our cups of coffee were refilled numerous times....can not praise this coffee shop enough...PS they do home baking and homemade jams...I had to buy some and was not disappointed...quality spot for lunch or just a coffee.
We visited here in august 2014 as the weather was not so good. were pleasantly surprised, the tropical world is well worth a visit and the children really enjoyed it. also definitely worth a mention is the indoor play area. my 3 year old loved it.... brilliant... also there is a really good vintage look café on site, very reasonable and the staff were lovely. it ticks all boxes for a family day out....
We have been going to Alcorns for years, the garden centre is great, the tropical attraction is great for kids and the cafe beside it is brilliant.
On arrival I was a bit unsure as it looked like I was going into a garden centre but what a little gem. My three teens moaned and moaned about going in, but once there they loved it. Butterfly's as big as your hand in free flight, trying to spot them among the foliage. Such a range of colours and sizes I would have spent hours in that section alone. Once you come out of there, there's lots of birds, monkeys, lizards, spiders, snakes, turtles, meerkats etc etc and you get really close up to them. The keepers even let the kids hold a snake and a dragon which they loved and learnt about. So fantastic trip, enjoyed very much.
Took the children for a day out and they really enjoyed all the different types of Butterflies and Birds , as well as the many different Animals to see , and they keep asking when are we going back. highly recommended and good value for money,
Great outing for children. The animals seem to be well looked after. Hope the meerkats get a new and bigger area. Very well maintained and a pleasure to visit. Lovely tea room on the premises with great fresh food and the tea room is very nicely decorated.
At 24 years of age I thought this may of been a bit childish for myself and my boyfriend to go to, but it was far from it! this is a superb attraction In Letterkenny its a shame that there is not more like it! the animal handling opportunities were great fun! all animals looked happy and were very clean which I liked to see! there was great refreshments available and the staff were very friendly!! I have been telling my friends about Tropical world and even offered to bring them there. STRONGLY RECCOMMEND!
I was in Letterkenny for two days recently and as a Wildlife Biologist of course I had to visit this mini zoo. Upon arrival I was greeted by the staff members who were honestly the nicest and friendliest people you could ever meet! Before entering the reception for the zoo, you are able to take in and examine the exquisite array of flowers and pot plants on offer in the Garden Centre. The zoo itself was my favourite part (of course)! From the butterflies straight through all the exhibits I was smiling!! What an amazing place!! The enclosures are fantastic! The animals are all so happy and exhibit complete natural behaviour because they feel at home in the zoo which I have to say a fantastic thumbs up to the keepers!! I really could go on for hours about how much I loved everything here in Tropical world, but Ill leave with this piece of advice.... Visit Tropical World, whether you are 2years of age or 90years of age.. You will love it and be smiling non-stop throughout your visit! A very kind young man by the name of Lewis Alcorn was very helpful to me and my partner throughout our whole visit!! Out of this world top class service from the Alcorn's family business!! P.S; Stop by the tea rooms next door to the zoo and garden centre for another round of superb service from the dedicated staff members.
Visited with our 4 young children and they had a great time! After working their way through the various cages and enclosures we met one of the Racoon's that was shown to us by his handler. The older children were fascinated and even managed to hold him for a little while! There is also an indoor play area with climbing walls, obstacle course, sand pit and large board games.
The Tropical World consists of a butterfly house, a birds/reptile house and a mini-zoo outside. The butterflies flutter by freely and may land on the visitors, so you experience the beauty of nature very directly (and at very pleasant 26°C). The visit only costs 5 Euro and it's definitely worth it. We spend some beautiful hours here!
