Babele is a nice addition to your time atop the Bucegi Mountains, but I would not make a special trip to see these rock formations. Ideally, you would take the cable car up top and you would hike to the cross, then see the Sphinx and Babele on your way back to the cable car. I'd say you will need 2 hours to do all 3.

The line up for the cabin was 2-3 hours long, exasperating, but after you wasted ine hour already it's hard to give up. Once up, the sun was gone and the narrow paths were either muddy or still slippery ice, but soon your eyes are taking in the amazing views, the rugged beauty of the place and the vast panorama whichever cardinal point you look. Our running shoes were not warm enough, a pair of mountain boots would've been the right foot ware. By the cabin, there is a snack bar, for some chips and a drink. These stone figures, far from as mysterious as the British Stonehenge phenomena, are still impressive, rising in the landscape, curious, silhouettes, that Romanians insist to call them BABELE, not the kindest moniker for older women. Later in May, June, the weather is making the experience more enjoyable, though the lines up are worse. Whatever inconvenience, from he 2500 meter altitude above the sea level is a view not to miss.
