I am a frequent visitor to Eglinton Park, I love the atmosphere and nature of the park. I have seen deer, otters, horses cows and sheep in the park before. It gets muddy in the winter so make sure you wear your wellies!

Portencross Castle is an historical destination. Built around 1000-1100 AD, this fortified stone castle flies St Andrews cross over the Firth of Clyde. Built by The Boyd's it is a strategic location to watch and protect this long inlet to Scottish commerce-by-sea. Roughly 40 minutes walk from Seamill Hydro, with most of the walk along the shoreline. This makes a good evening after-work, or after dinner outing for hearty walkers. Else, one can drive in perhaps 15 minutes.

We live less than a few miles from Portencross and have seen the castle transformed. The renovation of the castle is oustanding and the view from the top is one of the best in Scotland no matter the weather. If you are in the area it is a must see attraction. We visit the castle regularly.

Worth a visit if it's a clear day ,views from the roof are worth the visit. Knowledgeable guides take you through the history of the castle. ART SHOW on in June is a great time to visit with paintings from local artists.

Historical Castle set in a little bay surrounded by little cottages and farmland.. Lovely views of Arran and the old pair is a magnet for fishermen.. Lovely place for a picnic or a stroll.

I come here regularly with my family but came myself the other day. The castle is closed for the winter but offers nice views and walks around the area. Great place for photos.

I love coming here for the view and that it is so peaceful.Took my nieces where we climbed over the rocks around the rock pools to the castle. There is a flat road that can take you there from the car park but it's more fun climbing the rocks. Castle is small and was closed when we got there so we just walked around the small harbour side and took in the lovely view. There is also picnic tables next to car park with views across the sea to Arran.

Stunning restored castle with magnificent panoramic views on a clear day across to Millport, Arran, Ailsa Craig and beyond. We were lucky the weather was sunny and clear of any mist. There is a viewing platform at the top of the castle but up a very steep steep spiral staircase. This gorgeous castle has been lovingly restored from 50% lottery funding and private donations, this history rich castle even hosts weddings and parties now. Great picnic area at the carpark and incredible beach walks, rock pools and scenery. There are no facilities on site for loos or refreshments but Seamill Hydro and The Waterside are lovely and a short drive away. There are very friendly staff and a facinating exhibition and literature detailing its facinating past. Vikings and a sunken Spanish Galleons are a part of its facinating past. The castle will be closed to visitor from next weekend (end September) and reopens Easter 2015.Well worth a visit.

Very interesting castle in a wonderful location restored and managed by volunteers. Lots of interesting history to discover in this attraction in a quiet corner of North Ayrshire. Helpful guides and interpretation. Good views from the roof of the castle. A donation is requested for entry. When we have visitors, we often take them to the castle and they are always impressed.

What a lovely place ! The castle was well worth a visit and the guides were extremely helpful and friendly - true gentlemen. Well prepared and fascinating facts on the history of the castle available. Views from the top are well worth the climb up to the roof. Recommended to everyone and especially those who love history.

Found this historic spot on the way from Largs. Apparently local community and donations from tourists helped to restore this castle.Wonderful views, very interesting story told us by a gentleman there. You can buy some souvenirs with print of castle on it.Just take a minute and imagine yourself being in that time, looking into the remains of the window on top level and waiting for fishing boats to come back to shore. Some information about history of this castle is available inside in the main room.I think its open from 9 am till 5 pm only, so better come early or check the opening timings elsewhere. No entry fee, but donations for restoration are appreciated.

The volunteers are enthusiastic and knowledgable. This little castle is well worth the diversion to Portencross.

Our B&B recommended this spot - had never noticed the signs on other visits to the area. The climb to the top is worth the views and the displays are very interesting. Good spot for a family picnic and a scramble on the rocks.
