Well signed paths through the snowdrops. If I have a criticism it is, there is nothing on the leaflets or signage about the length of the walk and if it is suitable for disabled persons or wheelchairs
Scone Palace and its surroundings are a very pleasant place to visit, especially as we were on a day trip by bus from Glasgow, Interesting place to see and the walks in the gardens are superb
Amazing history, beautiful gardens!Allow yourself plenty of time to visit the palace, and the gardens, because believe me you don't want to miss a single thing! The tearoom is lovely, and so is the food shop.Bear in mind that the palace is open April to October, unless there is a special event.
Absolutely beautiful palace and grounds with such amazing history relating to the Scottish royals. Allow plenty of time to explore this lovingly maintained place as well as the surrounding gardens and buildings. We are so glad that we made the time to visit this historic place and highly recommend it to all.
Surprisingly beautiful, amazing gardens with peacocks stroling freely among us, beautiful palace where the kings and queens of Scotland were crowned! There is also a lovely tea room. I think this is one of the places that are underated
I am a Perth resident, and have gone to Scone Palace many times. We have a season ticket for entry into the grounds, so make the most of it when we can! The gardens and grounds are spectacular all year round.. We love to use the adventure playground, have a wander through arches and smell the flowers. The maze is such fun but we know the secret to it's riddle..... I might stand outside and guide lost travellers, for a small fee!The palace itself is grand, but easy to take in, with lots of information and lovely things to look at. I've also been at a wedding in the palace, and would recommend it's grandeur to brides and grooms alike. The staff are excellent, the café well worth a visit, and look on their website for different events taking place during the year. (Loved the jousting one year) We live right across the river, so we see it all the time, but to go there, meandering up the sweeping drive to the palace and the grounds, never fails to take my breath away
Lots of space outdoors, family events throughout the year, great day out.Steeped in history and amazing views over the river tay and scone race course.
There is plenty to see and do either in the Palace or wandering around the grounds.Great adventure playground for the children as well as a lovely café and gift shop.Full of history and elegance.
On this trip I got to go solo so it was an adventure for me, I grew up in a place where we just had simple things and being able to go on the other side of the world is an eye opener. The guides were great and very informative they even provide drinks to the tourist, if you're a history fanatic this must be on your bucket list
Beautiful, tranquil and atmospheric location, full of history and interesting sights. Staff were incredibly friendly and informative, particularly the lovely French lady who assisted us so kindly in the Gift Shop. We were also accosted by a gang of curious and friendly peacocks, something of a unique experience!
This beautiful stately home is poised above the River Tay in Perthshire and overlooks the routes to the Scottish highlands and the Grampian mountains form a distant backdrop. I was fortunate enough over the Christmas period to have visited the palace during a private visit and felt it was a delightful place to visit. The guides that showed us around were really well informed and they pointed out many interesting features and artifax on our journey around. One example being Robert the Bruce was crowned at Scone in 1306 and the present owner is the Earl of Mansfield. Also the Stone of Destiny was captured by Edward 1 as spoils of war and was taken to Westminster Abbey and in 1996 the Stone was finally restored to the people of Scotland when the British Government moved it to Edinburgh Castle. This place and its grounds makes a fascinating visit and if you are ever in the area it is well worth a call. Also worthy of note is that this visit has relatively easy access for folks with walking difficulties and also provides lovely tasty refreshments.
hot drinking chocolate on a freezing day in January.beautifuk snowdrops flowering in the gardens and robins in the trees
What a fantastic place to visit, was well worth the money to get in. I love the history about here and learned even more. a great day out
Scone castle was a good combination of history and family fun activities. The grounds have a fantastic maze and a great children's play area. I was there with friends who have children and the simplest things are always the most effective so we spent about an hour looking for conkers.
We only spent an hour or two on our way to Pitlochry so we visited the grounds and gardens. There was a very nice little chapel and a plaque nearby stating that Macbeth was enthrone at Scone in 1040 [for those who remember Shakespere]. There is also a replica of the 'Stone of Scone', otherwise known as the stone of destiny, which sat in the throne chair and all the Scottish kings and Queens were crowned on. Before that it saw all the coronations of Irish kings since Jeremiah the prophet [circ 5oo BC]. The gardens were in flower and we saw several species of beautiful butterflies. I have shared photos for you.
