Having travelled a fair distance to see "Brief Encounter" at this great little palace of entertainment,Although I feel they do suffer due to the rip off prices of car parking in the surrounding area. The décor of the theatre is such a nice welcome and that along with the friendly staff made our evening a great treat. As for the play a great cast and a very fine adaptation.
What a wonderful setting for a play of the film Brief Encounter starring Martin Shaw, Roy Marsden and Jenny Seagrove et al. A cracking little theatre. It goes to show (excuse the pun) that great productions do not need to be set in the West End in London. We travelled 1.5 hrs to attend this play-enjoyed every minute of it
What a lovely little theatre and how nice to have a coffee shop separate from the bar area. Theatre Royal Windsor makes a nice and more accessible change from the West End. My choice of production may not have been to the taste of all in our party but the theatre experience is nice here and we will revisit.
We visited in January for beauty and the beast in Panto. A great theatre staffed by helpful people made the experience fantastic from start to finish. The Panto itself was brilliant, perfectly pitched for the variety of audience, funny, a little scary at times for the young'uns, great acting and even better singing...Sheila Ferguson from the 3 degrees can still belt out a tune
We visited on Saturday the 20th December for the afternoon performance of the panto, this was our 5th year and it was quite superb. The production quality, singing and acting were absolutely fab. Every year this panto gets better, easily the best regional production, in fact even the big London productions would struggle to surpass Windsor. The Dame and Kevin Cruise work incredibly hard keeping the whole show going and making it hilarious. Each year the production quality gets better and better and how nice that for a change ' the celebrities' are chosen for their ability not just their tabloid worthiness. Can't wait for next year and neither can the children who are still singing the 12 days of Christmas !
Saw Agatha Christie's "and then there were none". Delightful venue and a great play. Forgot to ask if they had hearing assistance so struggled to keep up at times. Not the theatre's fault. Check with them if you need this.
We have been to this Theatre many times mostly in the afternoon. The curtains and the seats are very tired and worn and the Theatre needs updating. The place needs a good paint as well. Having said that the Theatre has a great atmosphere and the ticket prices are very reasonable. The shows they put on are very varied as well, Plenty of plays and also musicals. The staff seem quite friendly as well. Once we went in the evening and the Theatre was so cold that we had to put our coats back on. The Theatre seems to be very draughty. Also we did enquire about stand by tickets once which they said they did not do. You can have a coffee in the bar and also something to eat. Be aware though that it does get very busy in there and you can't always find a seat to sit down. The Theatre is about a five minute walk from Windsor Station so this is quite handy as well. They seem to do a lot of one night shows on a Sunday Evening as well.
We went for a late Pantomime show with our parents, friends and our 10 wk old baby too. Sitting beside the door, to avoid disturbing others in case the baby cried out loud. The attendants near the door were kind and supportive. All of the wore a pleasant smile and were happy to help. The show was amazing, theatre sound and features were commendable. Our 3rd visit in a year, and we so love this place. Everyone enjoyed the show...Quite nostalgic to see wall frames with pics of stage acts from 1940's to date. The only issue is there isn't much leg space (guess its an issue of when it was built).
We came in a large family group and all had a fun evening at Beauty and the Beast. The theatre is very grand on a mini scale and it was full the night we went. All dressed up, it was exciting for the younger ones. Jokes I laughed out loud to and songs that were done well. Roll on next year.
The pantomime Beauty and the Beast lived up to Windsors high standards. Humour worked at all levels in the traditional panto style. Theatre is a lovely building with nice period features.Theatre bar is popular and 5 drinks, 2 bitters, 1 Magners, 1 mulled wine and a sparkling apple cost a little less than £20.
Loved the witch played by Sheila Ferguson who still has a great voice. Less impressed with the temperature in the theatre - first time I've ever been cold at the theatre!
Best pantomime ever. The singing was fantastic and the jokes for adults and children were very well pitched. Won't be able to listen to the Twelve Days of Christmas in the same way again! Bring on next year - I can't wait.
I love this theatre. It's quaint, humble and steeped in history! My family and I recently went to the Beauty and the Beast Panto this year and it was utterly brilliant! The whole cast was great - from Rhydian and Sheila Fergusons singing to basil brush! It's just great for the whole family! I've been many times before - Avenue Q, Comedy nights, Sister Act, Women in Black - They always seem to get really good productions either before or after they appear in the West End. Which is amazing! What a great local treat! and ticket prices are very fair. I think it's a must do in Windsor!
brilliant, steers the path between not messing with the tried and tested formula and adding up to date songs, topical jokes etc. Children and adults had a whale of a time.Kevin Cruise and Stephen Blackeley were great guides through the mayhem (a throwaway quick change was one of the highlights). Band and all singers were high quality, well above the usual "crackerjack" standard. We will now be regulars.
Visited on the 23rd December for the 7.00 pm performance. This was the third performance of the day but the cast were still full of beans and put on a great show. A big disappointment for us was that the Beast was not played by Rhydian for this performance and this was one of the main reasons for booking, there was a small note to say this as we entered the theatre. The pantomime Dame and Kevin Cruise were hilarious and really put on a great double act.The theatre itself is a little outdated as previous reviews have mentioned and the loos definitely need a spruce up, I have never been to that theatre when all 4 ladies loos are functioning.Overall though worth the money and a fun night out.
