Been holidaying in the North Pennines for years, finally took the plunge and now I've decided to move up onto the moors, beautiful place year round, from the summer through autumn into winter and spring, with the wild beauty of the moors coupled with the history of the place, (your only 1/2 an hour from Hadrian's wall) it just covers all the bases for me. If you like rugged solitude and open spaces, look no further, outstanding place.

This area is so beautiful in every season. The views are amazing and we saw quite a bit of wildlife. Very corner you turn the views just get better. It never disappoints.

Beautiful area, fabulous for walkers & hikers, with plenty of great local hotels, pubs & cafes. Well worth a visit.

Worth it, should be a national park, lovely attractions, rolling fells, lovely dales, some big hills and beautiful reservoirs.

Go for a walk along the Teesdale Rail Trail. It is great walking when the ground is wet as it is well maintained and easy walking. Ideal for walking with children and dogs.

we stayed 4 nights in Middleton in Teesdale which we found to be a great location for the exploring we did. Places visited included the Bowlees Visitor centre for parking to walk to Low Force and High Force waterfalls. We had the OS map for the area but there are lots of well marked walks of varying lengths including the very pleasant disused rail path of Teesdale way as well as the Pennine way of course! The views were stunning all around whether walking by the river or away from it. Visited Eggleston Hall Gardens -reviewed separately and also further afield one day to Hadrian's wall where the excellent Roman Museum at Vindolanda was well worth the time we spent there. Experienced the bleak atmosphere at the World Heritage site at Housesteads garrison. An AONB we will be returning to most certainly.

We took a walk to the falls in winter. Great simple walk from the car park, absolutely amazing falls, well worth a visit.

must be one of the most beautiful places in the world , ive been all over the world and have never seen anything that compares to this area . we love travelling this region when ever we can . so much to see and the people here are so friendly

This place suits more serious walkers. You need a map as some of the sign are a bit haphazard. The terrain underfoot is mixed from good to not so good and if wet expect some boggy parts. Well worth the effort. Stunning.

We stayed at Thornley B&B in Allendale and visited Vindolanda (20 min drive) then drove 7 miles to the Roman Soldier Museum and on foot to Hadrains Wall (1 min away) and stunningly beautiful country with its vast rolling hills, sheep grazing and from Hadrain's Wall you feel up there with the beauty of it all.

This area has a lot to offer any body with a love of the outdoors. Choose your own favourite spot - the spectacular High Force waterfall, Cow Green Reservoir and Cauldron Snout are amongst my favourites - there are many walks of varying distance available and many small communities worthy of a visit.

this part of the country is so varied, beautiful scenery and quaint villages to visit, we live very close to the Pennines and love to visit the rugged moors with beautiful heather and spectacular scenery, Hill End, near Stanhope is a lovely spot for a picnic and of course Stanhope has the oldest fossilised tree just close to the parish church.
