I first stayed here in 1971 and the place has hardly changed, but that is part of the attraction! A traditional British seaside holiday awaits, pebbly beach with patches of sand at low tide, you are still in the Bristol channel here so slightly muddy water, but young kids will enjoy playing on the rocks. Great views along the coast, Wales opposite, Exmoor behind. Dunster village is nearby, as is Minehead, and for a great day out I recommend the West Somerset railway, which stops at Dunster station. Peace and quiet are the norm here, if you want a full-on holiday try Butlins, but if you value a relaxing break this could be just the ticket!

Stayed here twice this year in No 3 chalet! Site is like stepping back in time (in a good way), lovely for children, chalet is comfortable and has all amenities, good shower and toilet, brilliant uninterrupted country views at the front including the castle and the local steam train passes by a distance away, lovely to see and hear. Close to the sea at the back, so peaceful sitting on the patio listening to the waves lapping on the beach. Nice to see the welsh coast at night all lit up, lovely sunsets also. Not many of the chalets have an uninterrupted view at the front as well as the back as this one does. Parking space at the side of the chalet really useful, good distances between chalets at this end of the site. Owners really helpful and friendly. Little shop on the site is a gem, staff brilliant, we had a small breakfast (bacon, sausage, beans, egg and toast and a pot of tea for £2.99 each, unbeatable! all served with a friendly smile too! we will be back!

Old age chaplets with plenty of space for running around with the steamtrain nearby .go for a chalet with toilet and shower although the shower blocks are good

Recently visited wheelers oyster bar in whitstable while on holiday there for a week..Popped in on the off chance when I first arrived and managed to book a table at the bar for myself and my mum and had a lovely lunch the following day...We enjoyed a selection of meze cold seafood which comprised of smoked prawns, anchovies, smoked salmon, amazing homemade walnut bread to name but a few and my mum had cooked green lipped muscles with a pesto and cheese on top...We were very full after our lunch and had to waddle out and try to walk it off!! Whilst in there I also booked another date for the following few days as my husband was joining me and we reserved a table in the dining room...I was pleasantly surprised to get a table as normally you have to book well in advance to reserve at wheelers We ate at 5 pm and we took along a nice crisp bottle of white wine to enjoy with our meal..You have to bring your own alcohol but there is an off license directly opposite so it's not an issue at all and they have a very good selection of fine wines to choose from to go with your fish and seafood We selected Guinness battered cooked oysters to start with and potted shrimp which were the freshest and most delicious we have had everFollowed by fresh tuna which was served raw with a Japanese style sauce...amazingAnd fresh sea trout and scallops for our mainWe had such a lovely evening and we're not rushed at all and did not leave until after 7.30....It's such an intimate dining experience too that you can't help but to chat to other diners We actually shared some of our oysters with the lovely couple who were sat next to us and the table of ladies in front of us shared their wine with a lady who was sat dining alone...All in all a fabulous meal and can't wait to go back to try other things on their menu...Vicky and dan Westfield East Sussex

Great beach loved the chalets there. A lovely lake with wooded area around it to walk through. Lots of geese, duck and swans. Plus there is a little cafe, to spoil yourself with a lovely cuppa

Found these chalets quite by chance and went on to rent one a couple of times. Quite unlike anywhere else I've been, chalets sit right on the beach, very simple but totally charming. Not sophisticated, and the chalets offer basic accommodation, but we absolutely loved it.

I was there last week and the setting for a beach chalet holiday is terrific. Good walking, fishing, and close enough to Minehead to walk along the beach and enjoy the nightlife in town.

went there in1976 with my 2 daughters aged 3 and 5. returned this week to find that it has not changed at all. only the sand has gone from the beach.

Dunster beach is made up of 230 beach huts which on one side lines a beach and the other a nature reserve. This holiday suits both families and couples who just want to relax and get away from it all. Situated 2 miles from Minehead and all the normal attractions of a seaside town and Dunster village a quaint old market town with a national trust castle. We went for a week and would definitely go back. The beach huts/chalets are just basic wooden huts but with that old charm. Every hut has it's private patio and if you stay on the nature reserve side you have south facing gardens which are a suntrap. There's an old steam railway station a short walk from the site which adds to the quintessential charm. The beach is private and we were there the first week of the school holidays - the sun was glorious but the beach was almost vacant making it very special to walk along. In short a great base for a Somerset holiday.

Our family just love going back each year to this little chalet at Dunster Beach. We have been going for years! A nature reserve on one side, the beach on the other, what more could you ask. Its a really laid back holiday site. The showers are spotless and hot. The shop serves cream teas and other light meals. No noisy clubs or discos.........who wants that anyway! The families who come are a delight. Children actually PLAY, ride their bikes, feed the geese, swim in the sea and collect shells. Good old fashioned charm. Perfect.

This was our first visit to the enchanting town of Dunster. We stayed in a chalet owned by friends and although they are small, they are perfectly equipped with everything you need for a short break! We were lucky enough to stay on a chalet on the beach so was lovely to open to doors and look out to sea! It is like stepping back in time slightly but this is just what we were looking for, the shop has everything you need for breakfasts, lunches and visits to the beach and the walk around the lake, feeding the ducks was a great way to stretch the legs! Plenty to do in Dunster Village and the walk up to the castle is a great way to work off the yummy cream teas!!

Recently stayed in this beautiful chalet right on the beach. The chalet itself is small and compact but very well equipped. It was spotlessly clean. The beds were made up for arrival and we received a very warm welcome from Mr and Mrs Pitman. There are patios back and front. One side overlook the sea and the other overlooking the private road and grassed area. Just across from the chalet were a lake and lots o lovely wildlife to watch. Very safe as there is no through road. There is a shop on site which also provides snack meals such as jacket potatoes, fish and chips etc. The site is the same whichever chalet you stay in however I defy anyone to find a better equipped cleaner chalet than Pitman's Retreat. A lovely shower room and toilet. The shower was the best I have come across in holiday accommodation. The living room which has two chairs and a bed settee and a table and chairs (stored under the table). The bedroom as two single beds which are of a very high quality. The kitchen is fully equipped. I would totally recommend this chalet to anyone looking for a nice peaceful holiday which is in easy reach o Minehead, Porlock, Exmoor and not far from Lynmouth.

This relates to one of our favourite walks utilising the private car park at Dunster Beach, which is reasonably priced as our start point. The West Somerset coastal path can be followed from the car park, which also has excellent toilet facilities! The walk to Minehead follows the edge of the sea, and one can choose to walk either on the beach, or along the path that flanks the golf course for its entire length before arriving at the end of Minehead promenade - about 2 miles from Dunster Beach into Minehead town centre. An easy invigorating walk.

We have been to Dunster Beach for very many family holidays and are always delighted by its old world charm and slower pace of life. It offers endless safe fun for children because the chalets are so close to the sea. You are on the beach without having to go anywhere - so easy for mum and dad to relax and supervise all at the same time. The best chalets are the ones right on the seafront so I would recommend always asking for one of those. We have been staying in number 7 which has recently had some updating. We have enjoyed this one because they always say location location location and for us this chalet has one of the prime locations on the beach. There are no chalets opposite it so, as well as clear close views straight to the sea and beach from the rear of the chalet, the front looks towards Dunster and Exmoor across farmland, whereas some of the chalets look at other chalets. Also it has its own parking space to the side which suits us, not all of the chalets have that. The only negative for some people are that this chalet does not accept dogs. However, we like that aspect of it. It has an open plan living area, could sleep up to five, has a separate kitchen and loo and showers are one minute away. We are going back next month for another week - we can't resist the traditional magic that Dunster Beach offers. It is a conservation area and there is a lake with ducks, woodland walk, tennis court and a short walk away the wonderful steam railway. Perfect for bicycles and also a lovely on site shop for all your basics, plus hot and cold food. We suggest you try it for yourself - you won't be disappointed.
