What a wonderful place for stepping back in time. Great place for the young to learn about the past and also for the old to recall their past.

Really enjoyable visit made especially enjoyable by helpful friendly volunteers who were very knowledgeable.

This is a small but lovely museum where kids can see how school was for their grandparents and also try to write with their own feather ink pens. Parents can also rejoice but looking at old pictures and memorabilia. The staff are also brilliant. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

We've been here on several occasions and my kids have also come on trips with their school. An incredible insight into what education was like in the past. They people who run it are friendly, informative and very welcoming. Great fun.

Recently visited this museum. And really enjoyed it. The guide who took us round was very interesting and knowledgeable. Interesting mix of artefacts and information about life and school in Victorian times and also what it was like to have come there as an evacuee. The classrooms were set up accurately to reflect a range of times and there were also books and equipment used from 1930s until early 1960s. The Victorian houses had been restored after a fire relying on donations of furniture and artefacts dating from that period. A bit of an eclectic mix but worth looking at.Cafe was small and limited in what it sells but staff were very friendly and helpful. The majority of the staff are volunteers and are clearly enthusiastic about what they do. My only criticism was that having agreed to gift aid my payment for our entrance fee it actually cost me 50p per person more! I have never come across that scenario before. One more helpful tip is to park in the large car park by the church and market as there is no parking on site. Also, check opening times very carefully as the museum is only open to the public on certain days.

For £5.00 to include gift aid you get to spend a delightful time in this museum. It is both informative and educational, interactive and good fun and a trip back in time when proper standards existed. The staff are to be commended for the efforts to make the visit enjoyable, well done everyone.

I went with my children (4 and 6 at the time) and they loved it. In fact the next time we went to see the grandparents their request was immediate to go back.

An amazing place - so interesting and so well presented. The tour guides really interesting and so knowledgible. Spent 2 hrs, still did not see it all. Will return. Adults and kids alike.

Took my fiance and my parents to this little gem, and we were so impressed. The guided tour is well worth it, our guide was so nice, knowledgable and answered all questions. The headmasters house is stunning, and the lovely tea room was perfect for a break after our tour!Could not fault it, many thanks to all the people who made our day so happy :)

I visited on a trip to uk from NZ & was curious as I attended the school just before it closed. It was fascinating just for the memories, but in the event the visit was so much more than I expected: the staff / volunteers are excellent, and the guided tour was fascinating, illustrating how kids were taught, over the life of the school. I stayed much longer than I planned, & would like to thank the guides, in particular , for making it so entertaining( as well as educational )I can't recommend the place highly enough !

The British Schools Museum brings education and history alive . Open Tuesday 10 to 4, Saturday 10 to 1 and Sunday 2 to 5 is a little gem and a great place to visit for 2 to 3 hours. Cost is 4.50 adult 8.50 1 adult,2 Children and 13.00 ,2 adults and 2 children , very good pricing to get into a museum. Run by volunteers in period Victorian splender are friendly, knowledgeable ,and very helpful . Tours are arranged and you are not rushed around and you can converse , and ask questions. You are given time at the end to look around the very large site which does go back further from the road than when you first entered. First Sunday each month you can have a real Victorian lesson. Also you can see how a Victorian Headmaster lived with his family with an excellent guide. Children can play with Victorian toys , write in sand trays , and slate and also use an ink pen . After your tour there is an excellent cafe with inexpensive hot and cold drinks with light snacks , but best of all is the home made cake and scones , delicious. You can buy a nice memory or a book from the well stocked shop which is not expensive. A great little museum not to be missed.

This is a great little museum showing the history of schooling with plenty of hands-on exhibits to engage with. Try go when they are doing the Victorian classroom re-enactment (check the website for details) great fun and doing Maths with shillings and guineas will provide a novel challenge.

I visited this museum on a whim with a friend- a brilliant decision. The staff are friendly and welcoming- even coming to collect us before the tour started. The tour includes a visit to an old school building and a trip to the headmaster's house. It is fascinating to hear about early schools and our tour guide was very knowledgable. There is a small cafe with homemade cakes on site. Great day out for all ages.
