Stopped here for a quick visit and was quite impressed with this beautiful location. The lake offers some wonderful walks in the surrounding area. The lake really is spectacular surrounded by fells and if you rise early enough of a morning the reflections are magic!

Ideal walking area with spectacular views complete with accommodation and a few places to eat. The craft cafe staff are very friendly with high standards and good quality food! Will gladly recommend this area for the stunning views and great walks.

Just beautiful. I think one of my favourite spots. Lovely ice cream man as you reach the road 1/2 way round the lake... Ideal for younger children as lots to stretch their imaginTion!

Buttermere is my fav lake in the the Lake district and the drive there is lovely and its a perfect walk if you have young children with a decent path all the way around with stunning views and then finish it of with coffee and cake in the Croft cafe

Whether you want a gentle stroll around the lake or a more energetic hike up to Haystacks or the other adjacent peaks you should visit Butteremere. The views and atmosphere are outstanding

Nice walk around the lake. Plenty of parking spots although all are pay and display. To go right round at a steady stroll takes about 2 hours. has a good path but the east side is very uneven with rocks and roots so not recommended for push chairs. Theres a couple of coffee shops at one end along with toilets etc. nice for a half day. Dogs love it.

The lake is gorgeous and easy to get to and a good walk around and have a good meal at the Bridge afterwards.

Love this area for a mid-stay walk, breathtaking scenery from High Stile and a variety of paths to choose from. Cyclists like it too.

One of the prettiest (and smallest) lakes in the Lake District, it is surrounded by hills which present one of the more challenging walks in the area, or an easy one around the shore. Beautiful at any time of the year, and quieter than some of the more popular lakes like Windemere or Derwent Water.

What a wonderful place to go for a walk, if you want to stay on the flat it's great , however if you want to take on the hills then you have all that too, lovely

If you love walking, then you will love the walk around buttermere lake and also Crummock Water nearby. Buttermere is truly stunning and a lovely place to have a day out weather permitting! There are free walking maps that you easily can find online. We parked on the street just before we reached the main town as all the cars were parked there.

Not having visited the western lakes this was a total surprise, a real hidden gem. Small enough to walk around and you get the most amazing reflections of the hills in the water. Had a pub lunch at the Fish before starting the walk.
