My daughter is at college here, so I've seen bits that the tourist ticket wont let you into, but even if you have to pay, this is a wonderful place to visit. A carefully preserved piece of ancient England, succeeding in not only being a tourist attraction, but also a place for students to live and study. From Tom Tower, the Chapel, the Great Hall to the fish pond which is about 20 ft deep! - its all good. If you visit Oxford don't miss Christ Church, you won't be disappointed.
Unlike many other colleges visitors are allowed into Christ Church, but at a cost. Great buildings and it's the only way to see them inside but perhaps just enjoy them from a distance in the far lovelier Christ Church meadows.
Great architecture and quadrangles. Beautiful staircase and especially lovely gardens fronting onto the river.
We enjoyed our visit to Christ Church. It was nice to refresh the history and for my little one to check out the Harry Potter Great Hall location.
There are some very funny ideas on here about Christ Church. First, it's not an 'attraction'. This is a living, working institution. People live and study here. That's why bits of it close at inconvenient times. If the Hall is closed, it's probably because people are eating in it. You can't visit the Library without an appointment? Well, no - students are preparing for exams in it. The cathedral's shut? There's probably a service going on. The custodians won't let you explore everywhere you want to? Well, no - they're very protective of the privacy of the 20-year old kids whose bedroom windows you're unwittingly about to snoop through. You think it's both too crowded and too expensive? Has it occurred to you that they've set the prices to try to keep numbers within reasonable limits so that the entire place doesn't grind to a halt under a relentless barrage of mass tourism, and that at peak times that is indeed how things might feel to the folk who are studying there? You think they're trying to make money out of Harry Potter? Well, genuinely probably not: Christ Church is a wealthy institution and doesn't need to fleece tourists on a movie fix. Oxford is a beautiful city, and most of the time most places are very welcoming of tourists - just remember: 'these ruins are inhabited'.
A beautiful place. Starting from the meadow, all it is perfectly maintained. You can walk through the stairs and hall where Harry Potter Movie was filmed. Having said that, this place has much more to offer. An amazing gothic arquitecture, beautiful halls, stained glass windows, etc. If you plan to go to Oxford, this is a place you definitely must visit.
Absolutely amazing! the stained glasses of the cathedral tells beautiful stories and history. The souvenir shop and restaurant is also impressive!
we loved it here, the cathedral was lovely, with beautiful stained glass windows, well worth a visit, delightful.
lovely architecture! beautiful cathedral, great place to visit, the hall were harry potter was based on and the meadows.
- nice souvenir shop- remarkable building and gardens- impressive dining hall with paintings of influential alumni (-->harry potter, anyone?!)--> watch the introductory film! gives you a brief insight into christchurch's history
A tour of the cathedral was arranged by our church group. The guide was very experienced, had just published a new guide book ang gave us a most informative an entertaining tour.
What a beautiful college the tour was amazing it made me wanna attend the college ha I enjoyed all the history there
Inquire about finding a student to take you on a personal tour. It's worth it. They know about all the weird stuff and about what's going on not just the history
