Lovely house in a lovely street, good car park. Very pleasant staff. It felt like visiting Grandmas for me and made me smile......I won't say any more other than a visit is a must. You will not be disappointed.

As you would expect from the National Trust, the property is presented very well. It is a step back into the past of actual people that lived in the house as you see it.I'll say no more as not to spoil the delight for anyone that does go to see it, and you really should !

This was quite a unique house to visit.I had been visiting other houses in the area with Italian friends when it was suggested by my cousin to visit Mr. Straws. I was somewhat disappointed when we arrived outside the Victorian semi detached house but inside proved to be a step back into recent history! It was great, the house has literally maintained the atmosphere from the early 20thC and you almost expect the family to come in through the front door and ask you what you think you're doing in their house! I saw that the children visiting were quite curious about it. Well worth the visit.

If you are nostalgic, a must-see house. Everything is as it was lived in during the 1930's.It is a NT property, so non-NT members must pay a charge. It is only available on certain days of the year and YOU MUST BOOK.Being a septagenarian, I an remember some of the items on display!!!

A friend and I visited Mr Straw's House during the summer and had a very interesting view of life in the early 20th century. The house was given to the National Trust on the demise of the last owner, and it was preserved just as it had been left. The coats still hang on the pegs in the hallway, shoes were under the bed, and food (canned) was still in cupboards. It was a very unique experience, the family kept everything, there were numerous piles of items in the rooms etc. We had to book, only a small number are allowed to view this property at any time because it is all very cluttered.You are taken around with a very knowledgeable guide, after first going to the house next door to "book in". In this house are a small gift shop and a place to have limited refreshments. Very enjoyable and easy to find, with a car park opposite. There would be a charge if you weren't a National Trust member.

A most informative visit. Well laid out and organised.A rare insight into family life in the 1920s and 1930s.

I went with my 7 year old son and his friend for a history lesson. Both children are home educated.The house was easy to find and parking was adequate, situated across the road. Booking is essential as you have timed slots. The guides are knowledgeable and the whole experience was amazing ,understanding the lives of the people who lived there.well worth a visit,something for all the family.

This is not a stately home but a modest house created by a merchant family early in the last century and hardly touched since. It represents a fascinating and rare insight into the lives of the middle classes in provincial England. The National Trust has bought the adjoining house which acts as a reception area, museum and shop. Be warned that entry is by timed ticket which you should book in advance (I did it by e-mail around two weeks ahead so forward planning is essential). Also be warned that if you are late, there is every likelihood that they will have given your places to people who have turned up 'on spec' and there may be no other places that day. We were lucky in that I had booked the last slot of the day and my mother and I were the only ones so we had the guided tour all to ourselves. The cupboard full of tinned food was very evocative of an era together with the explanation of why it was on the top floor and not in the kitchen. The volunteers were full of local knowledge and the part played by the Straws in their environment. There is a small car park directly opposite.

A National Trust property out of the ordinary but quite ordinary??? For once not a stately home but that of two batchelors in their parents semi-detached home who lived a simple life and never modernised the place - no TV or central heating for example. Apart from a new stove in the kitchen I don't think it's been modernised since the parents bought it in the 1920's. Plan in advance as it's small and entry by timed ticket

Fascinating to get a glimpse of a home as it was in the 1920s. Really interesting rooms and knowledgable guides. Booking a time slot essential though.

Viewing by appointment only but the staff can be accommodating if you just show up. Interesting to see how homes looked way back when.

It was lovely to visit a National Trust property that wasn't a grand stately home. The volunteers are keen, enthusiastic and knowledgable but lacked a sense of humour at some of our remarks. It was rather regimented and we felt like naughty school children as we were told to wait here, go there, do this and look at that. Having said that there has to be a certain degree of organisation because of the logistics of the building and the volunteer guides certainly have your visit timed perfectly.We loved the house and enjoyed our visit very much, I would recommend making sure you aren't late though.....I'm sure they'll have a naughty step for you!!

What a time capsule. The house and all it's contents will take you back in time. Really wonderful place to visit

I was really looking forward to my tour of Mr Straws house on this return visit. We booked our tour for 12.15. We left home in good time but unfortunately encounted a heavy load being transported on our way. We arrived at 12.20 to be told we had missed our tour. As we had been before we knew you watched the DVD first so I asked if we could join on after the film as we had already seen it. We were told very abruptly, no. We asked if we could book another time later in the day and were also told No, they were too busy. Someone else had been given our space as we hadn't arrived on time. We had traveled a number of miles to do this tour and didn't find the staff to be at all helpful, after all we did try our best.
