This Museum is famous for it's exhibitions of Asian Cultures. For instance now (untill the 28th of June) there is a special exhibition about "Gold of the Gods of ancient Java" (Indonesia). When you visit Rotterdam this museum is a must be.
its about beutiful jewelry from 300-600 after Christ, from Indonesia, very symbolic. It has also a permanent collection from mJapan.China and from the Daila Lama
We were given a tour of the Gold of the Gods exhibit before having dinner in the restaurant. It was fabulous! Don't miss it.
we came accross this museum and found it very inspiring with people showing their own things, doing demostrations as you watch and showing also how to make things. worth a visit
We were happy that the staff advised us to make use of the audio tour, which we often reject, preferring to think our own thoughts about what is viewed. The information gave a much richer background to the exhibit and offered the possibility of hearing more information about each area of interest by choice. What a fine installation of Tibetan art in the form of a Tibetan Temple interior with appropriate introduction to the sounds and their significance which one experiences in the temple. A comprehensive view of Buddhist art from China, Japan and Tibet. Friendly staff, interesting bookstore, and relaxing coffee/tea shop. Perhaps next time we will be able to make use of the famed world restaurant associated with the museum.
I've visited this museum when I was a kid, and decided to go back. The museum is located in a beautiful building and has a permanent collection and changing exhibitions. The permanent collection shows old cultures from around the world and is a must see when you are interested in history/culture. When you have the time, it is nice to take your time and walk around. The museum is not very big, but has a lot to offer if you take the time. The staff is very kind and helpful. And if you get hungry, I recommend visiting the restaurant that is located in the museum.
Not too big museum, with a static exhibition on old cultures in the far east. Changing exhibitions on two floors on specific themes. Off the beatn track. Nicely located. Nice lunchroom and very good restaurant.
The drawback is that photography is not allowed, which is very strange in this time and age given the importance (to promote the museum) of sharing photos nowadays.
We had no plans to go to this museum when we visited Rotterdam, but what a delight when we were walking in the Veerhavn area to see the building on a corner of the harbor. Goud der Goden is one of the finest exhibitions I have ever seen -- beautiful objects presented in excellent installation, plus a fine audio self-guided tour in English. It ranks with the great Scythian gold show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art a few years ago. Take the train to Rotterdam and do not miss this show -- once in a lifetime. The museum has a lovely cafe with inspired menu, and a beautifully designed shop. You will find it altogether a wonderful experience.
The museum is very well located right next to the Waterbus pier and Spido boats so you can easily visit it if you are planning a trip to Kinderdijk or a Spido boat tour. "Gold of Gods" exhibition was very well presented and included some truly stunning pieces of gold from Java. The permanent exhibition was a wonderful surprise, it has a very diverse collection, my favourite parts were Tibet and Oceania. Audio guide in English was included in the admission price. Highly recommended
Was very impressive and presented on an interesting way, very unique and lovely historical building.
I loved how this museum shows how culturally diverse Rotterdam is. Good temporary and permanent exhibits.
This museum is mostly filled with native art from all over the world. They also have a lot of different exhibitions, even though I must admit it's really a taste-thing. On top of the museum is a really good restaurant, can highly recommend that.
A museum review is always a bit personal and therefore people might strongly disagree. I went to this museum for their exhibition about the samurai. The exhibition was awesome and well put together. The rest of the museum features alot of native art from all over the world which just isnt really my cup of tea. If you are interested in these things I imagine you will have a nice time here.
Loved the exhiibits, beautiful building and store and wonderful destination restaurant. Don't miss going through all the floors and having coffee outside on the waterfront in the Bali house!
