Outside of Porto, Taylor is a brand that many are familiar with, similar to Sandeman in reputation. The lodge is located towards the top of one of the hill leading up from the Douro River and a decent hike. But well worth it. Many port lodges in Porto have a set tasting experience. Taylor allows you to design your own experience and have some well-crafted port wines. Additionally, they have free wifi and offer food. When going from port lodge to port lodge just drinking port, sometimes being able to digest some food is a welcome break in dwindling sobriety. The tasting room is warm and welcoming and the view from the top of the hill is stellar. There are a few rarer ports that you likely won't find at home, but many of the more simple varieties are. Enjoy your time!
As highlighted by other reviewers, its location is very obscured but the walk is definitely worthwhile. I have been here twice during my visit to Porto and found the easiest way to get here is by metro. Just follow these directions:1. Alight at General Torres station and find a building with Andante service counters. 2. After entering the building, walk downstairs to the next level3. Exit the building and you will find yourself at a junction. Take the leftmost one which runs alongside the train tracks. (Note: You will realize the road is higher compared to the houses below. If you find yourself walking among the houses, go back to the building and take the road NEXT TO the train tracks)4. Walk another 100m. Now, keep to the right side of the road (away from train tracks) and take the right turn downwards towards Yeatman. Taylor's is just opposite YeatmanYou'll be amazed by the value of this visit. Let me list down a few- EUR 5 for a 30 min introductory wine tour with 3 complimentary wine tastings (chip dry, LBV, 10 y/o Tawny)- Enjoy your wines in a beautiful garden, in their wine lodge or on their terrace which overlooks the cities of Porto and Gaia, and the Ponte D. Luis I bridge. Breathtaking view- Knowledgeable and friendly staffOn a side note, I lost my invoice during my travels and the staff was very helpful to send me a soft copy within short notice. Overall I had a wonderful experience with Taylor's and would highly recommend you pay their wine cellar a visit
This is one of the nicest places we went to in Porto - it is located up on the hillside so you get a fantastic view from their terrace where you can go to do your port tasting. The lady who did our tour was great and explained everything really clearly with some funny stories thrown in. All in all very good value for 5 euros - you get the tour and 3 tastings.
The location of Taylor's is a bit uphill than the others, prepare for a bit walk. The view from Taylor's is fantastic due to the height. Three glasses for 5 Euro is good value for money. The lodge tour , where you see the barrels and only barrels, was just a simple introduction. For anyone who wants to know more (say you have a background in port tasting), the tour may be too simple.
Well I'm gonna start of by saying that when I went (February 2015) one part of the cellar was closed, so the tour missed an important element there, however I must say, the main cellar gives you a good idea of how other cellars might be. This cellar is located atop a hill and not besides de duoro river like most the other cellars, this is a good thing and a terrible thing at the same time, it's good because it gives lovely views to the duoro and ribera area, however it's bad if you are going by foot from the riverside where all the other port cellars are because you'll have to climb a really steep hill for about 45 minutes to get there (however, there is a metro station 5 Minutes away from the cellar and if you are taking the metro it will be really convenient going by this route) once in the cellar they conduct really insightful tours and then they provide a tasting of the 3 different port wine varieties in a very lovely tasting room (and if you want you can go on to the garden to have a glass while admiring the view) all this for about €5, I think it is definitely value for money .
excellent staff, very knowledgeable and helpful. 3 glasses of Port for 5 euro! Classic location. Great history
Very informative and nice tour, also had some funny parts. The guide's English was very good and we got to try three different ports. We enjoyed the first glass outside on the terrace with a view over Porto (Taylor's Port is located in Gaia, on the other side of the river Douro) and it was beautiful! The price was also very good (5€).
Good welcome and very informative guide. Conclude with 2 glasses of port. Classy lounge. Tour is basic and simple.
