a really nice walk. It takes about 2 1/2hrs total up and down. Its on one end of the island but you can see most of the island from the highest point. recommend doing it.
Nothing to dislike as the island is very small so the viewpoint gives you a feel of belonging (for a while at least) to a very exclusive community.
This is a little gem of an island. Totally unspoilt and infomercial. Not the place to if you want lots of shops, or nightlife. Just an amazing beach. Lovely people, and sunshine.
Porto Santo Island is really small. You can go from one end to the other in just an afternoon. Get a map from the island and you will find the viewpoints quite easily. Portela Viewpoint is not an end, you can actually continue around the island from here. In my opinion getting a motorcycle like this or a moto 4x4 is the best way to explore the island.
A great viewpoint to see all of the Island. From here on a clear day you can see Madeira Island. You are able to see 90% of rhe island from here.
One of two viewpoints (Miradors) at opposite ends of the island. This one is just off the main road and overlooks the port and the marina as well as the main power station. It has a vista along the whole of the beach and the majority of that side of the island.
This is the most iconic viewpoint of Porto Santo Island. From this viewpoint its possible to see the whole 9km of golden sand beach.I really recomend it!
This is one of the iconic viewpoints in Porto Santo island, from which you may absorb and admire the island's main bay and its 9Km-long golden sandy beach (for me the very best in whole Portugal), the quite controlled (apart from a couple of buildings such as the Vila baleira Hotel) urban development, the airport (you will see the whole landing strip it from a bit above) and some less explored areas, with high hills and narrow bays, to the East. And also the harbour, just below your feet.I suggest that you try also the symmetric view from "Miradouro da Calheta (das Flores?) viewpoint in the western end of the bay (seee attached picture), from where you may enjoy fantastic eastwards morning views and westwards outstanding sunsets.
You just have to see the island from the viewpoints...sand, historical buildings and controlled development
Amazing nearly 360 degree views over a large part of the Island- the harbour, out to sea, and the town and the beach. Easy walk to the iconic reconstructed windmills from the parking area. Numerous wild flowers and grasshoppers at time of visit. Peaceful.
Amasing view above harbour that reaches far south end of island, in a glance you can see all beach. Can get a bit windy up there.
Good views over the small harbour and beach to the West of the Island. In easy distance to the reconstructed windmills that can be seen on the hilside behind the viewpoint. We walked to the viewpoint but probably best to visit by car or with a tour bus.
With one of the best views of the Southern coastline you will get some amazing pictures from here. The view takes you from above the port to the far western point of the Island
We went there on a jeep safari by "Bonus Journey" company and loved!!!
The outlook was great, must see, wonderful colours.
