Far away from Valletta, but it is worth seeing! Small fort with biggest gun! Excellent educational show, prepared by the staff, about the history of firearms. Nice 15 min film in casemate about the fort itself. Good defile of military reenactment.

The fort was more compact than we were expecting and didn't take long to walk around but we spent more time on site than we first expected, all thanks to the weaponry demonstrations. We really enjoyed learning about the different rifles and swords - the enacter leading the demonstrations had a great sense of humour but this didn't hide his knowledge and passion for the subject matter. It is well worth spending the extra time at the fort to experience the weaponry demonstrations because you can learn so much more in watching these than just reading up about the weapons in a museum.

A must do for visitors to Malta. The Staff are knowledgable, approachable, friendly and very entertaining. I can't recommend this highly enough.

Fort Rinella is a small fort with a huge cannon. The fort is on the No 3 bus route from Valletta and has attractions and reenactors present. The fort is small and not like the traditional 'castle' it is more like a gunnery emplacement. The staff were welcoming and engaged well with the public. They made me welcome. The fort was alive with reeneactors and this brought the place to life. The café on site served hot food and the toilets were clean. There is an audio-visual display on site as well as demonstrations of sword fencing. The site is not really suitable for people with a substantial physical disability because of steps down into the limestone tunnels. There was a cavalry exhibition on site which was great. There was the ability to fire rifles and cannons for a fee and this brought the place alive.Well worth a visit. Try to be there at 14:00 hours for a couple of hours.

Quite apart from the fascinating history and the enormous 100 ton gun, the visit was made for us by one of the funniest and most informative guides we have ever come across. Really interesting for anyone interested in British Victorian military history.

In short, there aren't many places in the world you get to see a 100 ton gun and fire a cannon. A 10 euro donation gives you an option to fire a canon or a 5 euro donation you can fire a Musket, which I highly recommend. The shows and tour was excellent and the guides couldn't help enough. The Fort Rinella team with their shows/descriptions of bayonets, sabre duelling, musketry...and the horse display with lances. For a small donation you can sponsor one of thier horses which they saved from the abbatoir after they had outlived thier use as polo ponies. They are now treated to a comfortable life that they can keep into thier old age. If you sponsor one of the horses you are given a certificate and according to what you donate you can have a T Shirt or a keyring or other memorabilia. I think its a very good cause as they have to import all the bedding from egypt and the hay from elsewhere and without donations they would not be able to give these horses the life they deserve. All in all a great day out one of the sights not to be missed.

Wow, what a great time spent there. From the outside it doesn't look much but inside the shows and tour were excellent and the guides couldn't help enough !! Nice café for drinks and lunch.

I would echo the other posts re Fort Rinella.Having had a 9 year old moan about other siteseeing attractions on Malta which included knights, weapons etc for a couple of days, the omens were not great but the enthusiasm of the Fort Rinella team with their animated shows/descriptions of bayonets, sabre duelling, musketry and of course cannon through the ages was engaging and fun for all ages such that the afternoon passed with the description that it was "awesome siteseeing" having had the opportunity to fire a rifle and a cannon. A very enjoyable experience for the afternoon

A really enjoyable experience. Witty and informative. Well worth a visit. The only disappointment was the weather although nothing was too much trouble for the soldiers we enjoyed the open air display as fortunately the rain cleared. An excellent experience.

Thanks to visitors like you that help us everyday running the fort by joining us to see or live history.

Thank you for your visit and we hope to have this fort so popular that you could spend a week when it will be fully restored.

A classic way and traditional way of crossing the city to reach us and for what you seen we hope that your really felt like going back in time. Perla is one of our best horses that helps our riders in almost every cavalry in any age. She can dress up as a Roman auxiliary light horseman to a powerful charging fighter of a full armored knight in Jousting. Thank you very much for your visit and high rating.

Thank you for your high rating, with your help our guns will fire louder and our horses will run faster.
