Some ideas never made my bucket list because they are too unreal to even think of... like finding some quintessential cuteness of jumping baby goats or taking a selfie with alpacas - and all just an hour drive from Atlanta! We were a bit worried with going to the farm on a chilly and cloudy day but it ended up being one of our most memorable weekends in GA. The tour began with Liz (the owner) sharing her story and talking about life on a farm and her passion and humor immediately made us feel very warm and welcomed :). The best part was, of course, feeding, hugging and taking pictures with alpacas - probably the most polite, mannerly and cute animals we've ever seen. Southern Estate Alpacas is definitely a place you leave happier than when you entered ! We look forward to visiting you again
I visited "Southern Estate Alpacas" on a cold day with a group of friends, and I can honestly say it was such a warm and positive experience that the cold didn't bother us one bit! The alpacas are absolutely magical - fluffy, soft, and adorable!!! Besides alpacas, there are also very cute baby goats! Liz (the owner) gave us a very entertaining and educational tour, answered all our questions, and even gave us a great local restaurant recommendation. At the end of our tour we left the farm with big smiles on our faces:D
My son and I went for a tour expecting to see a few animals, maybe pet a couple, and learn new things. Instead we got to hang out in the pasture with the herd, hand feed all the alpacas, scratch ears, learn about alpacas. The alpacas are Liz answered all of our questions. Well, mostly my son's questions. He was so excited and intrigued that he was coming up with new questions before he finished asking the current question. Liz took it all in stride and shared everything she knew. The baby goats were adorable, of course, and it was fun to learn about the their habits and behaviors too. I highly recommend this farm for a fun and educational visit!
I recently took eight teenage girls to visit the farm. This was one of the best trips we have taken!! The farm is beautiful, the animals are extremely well taken care of, and the owner, Liz, is extremely personable and knowledgeable. This is a working farm that allows visitors to really get a close up look at what goes into raising animals on a large scale. This is a definite if you are looking for a wonderful place to experience how to farm. We LOVED it!!!
Have you ever been in a situation where you see a herd of alpacas running towards you ? Didn't think so. My boyfriend and I were in Atlanta visiting friends and they had planned a trip to this alpaca farm. What a delightful surprise! It was a cold that weekend but Liz and her alpacas made it worth the freezing temperatures. I learned so much about raising alpacas and felt the desire to start raising one on my own! The best part of the experience was feeding the alpacas while Liz told us more about her experiences raising the animals. I would highly rate this farm to anyone visiting the area. The alpacas are fluffy, friendly, adorable!
We visited with a group of teenage Girl Scouts today and we all absolutely loved it!! From phone conversations with Liz, I already had a sense of the place but was still totally blown away by how beautiful and well run the farm is. It is obviously a labor of love - and part of the love is sharing it with others! Do yourself a favor and pay a visit. It is delightful!
Baby goats are awesome. Animals were great, totally relaxing and exciting at the same time. Despite how large the alpacas are, they are surprisingly very gentle and non-intimidating.
I got tickets for the farm tour through living social. It was fun learning about and feeding the alpacas and playing with the goats. The owner Liz was a great host and it was very informative. It was a perfect thing to do on a cool sunny day. Highly recommend!
Talk about relaxing. Standing in a herd of alpacas with their favorite snack was neat. The baby goats were icing on the cake. Got some great pics and shared a unique experience with friends. Thanks Liz!
I had the greatest time visiting Southern Estates Alpacas last month! Jerry and Liz (the owners) are wonderful hosts, and I learned so much from them. They are so willing to share the knowledge they've gained from their years of farming. I was surprised to find that they also raise several breeds of goats as well. If you're looking to get some fresh air in a beautiful setting, meet some fantastic people ( and alpacas, and goats, and dogs...), and learn some things you didn't know before, then you'll love this place! I brought some very happy memories home with me to New Zealand, and I can't wait to have another chance to visit again.
Liz was great. The kids (and adults) enjoyed feeding the alpacas! Loved the stories about how it all began. We will be back!
Bought a Groupon for this and it was a great time! The highlights:1. The location has a couple of benefits. First, the drive itself is pretty once you turn off the I-75. Second, it's far enough out of town to be out in the country without taking forever to get to it.2. You get to feed alpacas and several varieties of goats! They are gentle and fun. If you are from the city (like I am) and aren't overly comfortable with being around livestock, the hostess (Liz) will take care of you. It's never scary.3. The property is beautiful. 4. The staff (mostly just Liz) is super helpful and friendly. They have tons of alpaca wool gifts, but she is never pushy about selling them. As I am writing the first review and trying to get this place on TA, I can't post pictures which is too bad! The hostess took our cameras and let us just feed them while she took photos with our camera phones.
