The old courthouse in decatur serves as home to the Dekalb History Center Museum. It is well preserved and maintained. The first floor houses the exhibits which change periodically. There are only two or three exhibits shown because the area is small. The docents are there for questions, but the tour is self guided. There was not a fee for entrance to the exhibits. The courthouse is also available for weddings, corporate functions, luncheons, lectures, and parties. The area around the courthouse is very nice...loaded with shops and restaurants.
The wedding was held there. It was a beautiful and historic building on a lovely piece of property. There is a gazebo out back and is surrounded by the cutest stores.
Convenient, with,Marta train & bus stations adjacent, and parking garage behind it. Many restaurants directly in front.
Historic Building. Great venue for a wedding. Elevator is very slow, stairs near by.Decatur Square is on both sides and rear of building.
The exhibits are very interesting to young and old. The staff are very helpful. The time you spend is up to you. It isn't a huge museum, but you can take as much or as little time as you like. I don't recall a fee, but I'm pretty sure they accept donations.Great shopping (including local artists and culture) and excellent dining surround this building. The square is always a fun place to people watch with a diverse mix of people and families.
I recently attended a wedding and reception at Decatur's historic Old Courthouse. Smack in the middle of charming Decatur, Georgia, the courthouse is now a place for weddings and receptions. It is also close to smart shops, hotels/motels and public transportation including its own rail station on Georgia's MARTA.
Exhibits are always interesting. The staff of the Historical Society is very helpful with research. Beautiful building with lots of architectural features but made handicap accessible.
Attractive building over 100 years old. Now functions as civic center and museum. Travelling exhibits included Anne Frank photo exhibit which was excellent. Good local history source also.
The Courthouse had a wonderful Anne Frank exhibit for several months. It's a nice, older facility and is the center of Decatur's Square.
The history of it, the portraits, the remaining older furniture, the stone work on the outside. Some creakiness in the stairs and floors. Sometimes they had people dressed in period costumes and that enhanced the visit.
We're having our rehearsal dinner here!So lovely and great location!People are friendly and helpful.
Nice, not too large, great building. Decent displays, Decatur, you know, turned down having the railroad intersect there, they wanted a more bucolic life.
f you want to have a great time and spend time with family. You may consider this. and you will have surrounding cafes and nice places to enjoy visiting.Have fun.Good place for history and memory of old generations.
Last time I was in the old court house was for a wedding reception. Seemed appropriate. It is majestic as you drive up Clairmont.
surrounded by office buildings, this is a quite niche in old Decatur. Has some charming sculptures out front. Worth a look.
