Newnan is a "old town" that strives to keep its character and charm along with supporting small, local businesses. It hosts a variety of architectural designs, is dotted with historical interests as well as various sculptural points of interest.Downtown hosts "a taste of", farmers markets, local art shows on the square around the old courthouse that once served as a civil war hospital. During the Christmas holidays there is also a tour of homes that shows off the historical gems that has earned Newnan the title of "City of Homes".

On 85, you drive right past Newnan, so it seems silly not to stop for a half hour break. If you take route 34 west (Bullsboro Road) from 85, you will wade through a huge (reasonably high quality commercial district and then signs will get you Downtown. The simple thing to do is to park around the Courthouse Square, and just walk the town. If you are up for dinner, for sure go to either Garlic (family owned - great sushi etc on the Square) or The Cellar (3 minutes from the Square - very cool vibe and great food). For lunch, Redneck Gourmet is good and would be fun and easy with kids. There are also good coffee and ice cream stops on the Square. If you have the time (10 added minutes and very easy), ask for the historic district, and drive through it. The period architecture is superb and well worth the tiny detour. If you decide you want an even more in-depth visit of the surrounding area, I recommend taking Roscoe Road to Serenbe, off Hutcheson Ferry Road in 30268. Head to the Blue Eyed Daisy for coffee, or to the Hil Restaurant (fabulous) for lunch or dinner. All this is closer to ATL, so reverse if you are heading west on 85.

There are a lot of nice restaurants and shops but no place to park. Lunch and dinner hours are brutal for parking. You have to try the Rednexican restaurant, it's the best!

There are many restaurants and shops to view as you stroll the town square. At center is the famous courthouse featured in several movies. Night life is hopping on the weekends with live local talent. Enjoy the history and treat yourself to a special meal or cool drink as well as the artistic features around the courthouse square.

This place is awesome. We ate downtown in several places and went in all the stores. Everyone is very friendly.

The county Court House is a structure to see for sure, but all of downtown Newnan is beautiful and well maintained. Lots of beautiful homes on the main roads leading into the city. Only drawback is the volume of traffic! - very overcrowded on weekdays..

The downtown was decorated for Christmas, and was very pretty, especially lit up at night. Parking is free, and can be a little difficult to find a spot at times. We didn't have time to browse the shops, so I can't speak to the merchandise or prices, but the store windows made the shops look festive and inviting. We plan to go back when we can wander the shops. Everyone was very friendly.

Visited Newnan during the summer and loved that you could take a nice stroll, pick from several great restaurants, stop and get a drink in inviting bars, or just grab an ice cream and watch people. Great place to visit if you're in absolutely no rush.

I have always dreamed of living in a small town. From the time my feet hit the cement, I felt like I was at home. I am pretty sure that Norman Rockwell based some of his paintings on this town! The people that you meet are intelligent, classy and friendly. I look forward to calling Newnan home. Make sure to eat at the MEAT and GREET. The food is amazing!

Newnan IS a great city to live or visit. Just 20 minutes outside or Atlanta, THIS should become the new "go to" Saturday and Sunday drive with the family. How many times can you visit points north ??? YES, the mountains are beautiful and colorful... but driving south is where history lives. Not the Old South's racial and/or radical past... that was then, and it's long since gone away. Cities like Newnan ARE history. Come visit us here !

Downtown Newnan is a great downtown area. It's not touristy, so you won't find a lot shops selling knick-knacks, but you will find a classic, old, functioning downtown with local community supported businesses, great eating establishments, and an amazing historic courthouse in the center of it all. If you are up for a little walk, take some time to walk through the historic neighborhoods to the west or south of the downtown area... lots of great old houses to look at.

Enjoyed site seeing, shopping and dining in historical downtown Newnan! Toured courthouse, ate lunch at Redneck Gourmet. Best hotdogs! Shopped at Kendra's, visited three antique stores, then dinner at Meat and Greet. Known for it's hamburgers! Delicious! They also have whole fried okra pods with dipping sauce that are the best ever. Great Service! Was there for my birthday.

Old Newnan has a beautiful and newly restored courthouse surrounded by shops and restaurants. (Be aware of the one-way streets) I suggest you tour circles around there to see the beautiful houses which give the town it's unique charm. Many are registered historic homes. Here are some of my favorite streets.... Jackson St and Greenville St are Hwy 29 running through town. On 29 North of Town go past Sprayberry's at Roscoe Rd for some of the best. South 29, go from town to the huge victorian on the right then u turn or go down to Moreland. In town there is College, West Washington, East Broad, Northside (in spring my favorite for the azaleas) and Wesley St. You will see others from these. Business Bullsboro Rd at the I-85 exit is not the Newnan we know and love. Old 29 is.
