Be ready to scramble up some steep slopes, and you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Flint River, both in rainy season and in drought. Vultures and hawks soar off the cliffs, and bamboo grows wild everywhere. Perfect place for a picnic, and a river runs through it! This is a state park so there is a parking fee,
Saw reviews for the park and headed over for a picnic. Bought an annual Georgia State Park pass a while ago so other I made sure to bring the hang tag. Once there after an hour and a half of driving there were signs indicating the park was in the hands of the county and not the state as suggested by the listing on Trip Advisor. The county charges $5 to use the park. The booth was unattended, we didn't have change so we just parked with our State Park hang tag on the rear view had lunch and walked a bit. It is a neat area with the bluff, river, and overlook. Seemed well maintained. Porta pottys and pit toilets were the facilities. Playground, benches both covered and al fresco. Bike and hike trails we didn't have time for but which looked fun.The posted map and other information still had the state park designation. We may have violated some county ordinance but after researching and planning the trip for a day and investing the time to get there it just didn't seem right not to enjoy the place. If you go bring five dollars US because, if you have the annual pass, it might not be a state park.
I'm from ever-flat Florida so I'm conscientious about not "making a mountain out of a mole-hill" haha. But I was so surprised by the height of these bluffs, pretty smack dab in the middle of GA. Not like one would expect. The views are beautiful. There are some pretty steep ravines, cliff overhangs overlooking the river, lots of wildlife (we saw armadillos, squirrels, turtles and deer), scenic hiking trails, the smell of nature is encapsulating... Just a very nice park for any nature lover. All of the facilities are well-maintained (the park, the little cabin buildings, the benches). And there is a deck that overhangs a ravine and is the most absolutely perfect lookout point and MAGNIFICENT at sunset. My eyes were enraptured by all the eye candy of the fall colored leaves and clear sky with blazing color at sundown. There's not much else to do in this area, but this is a must do. Well worth the measly $3 park fee.
Not a big park but a lot of out door activities. Also a great place to relax an read a book. You would think you're in the north ga mountains not middle ga had a great time.
Husband and I drive down the windy windy curvy curvy road with lots of deer to visit late one evening. The overlook on the way down is pretty awesome. The park looks like a lot of fun if you have kids! Playground. Picnic benches. Basketball goals. Places to swim / wade. It is very rocky so be careful!
This is a beautiful place!! Beautiful new deck that overlooks river! You can see lots of deer. We always seem to meet friendly people there!! Perfect toTake a picnic.☀️
It is a beautiful area if only people would respect places like this more. Only issue is that people are flight and threw their trash anywhere without regard for the wild life or respect for our future generation whom may not get to enjoy such beauty that is our earth!
I was in town from Northern CA visiting my family and my Dad decided to go here with all of us and his grandkids in tow. I was skeptical as I don't really enjoy rivers in GA south of Atlanta, northern ga is gorgeous and N. cali has spoiled me! I was pleasantly surprised though- this spot looked like we were in north ga and not central/southern GA! Gorgeous views, fairly clean river, and not a ton of ppl out here. The beach area was nice and the kids loved swimming, skipping rocks, and jumping on rocks to get across the river. We had a nice picnic under the covered pavilion, watched a few kayakers/canoers get out of the river here, watched an amazing thunderstorm pass over us (only about 30 minutes)... all in all a awesome spot!
Sprewell Bluff is a beautiful place to visit with an overlook that will make you think you're in N. Georgia vs Central. Further down It has a nice area for parking, picnicing, swimming as well as nice hiking trails. A really nice family outing type place. Just a short drive from Thomaston and well worth the effort.
Since childhood, Sprewell Bluff has been in my vocabulary and there is nothing quite like the spectacular views of the Flint River that are a part of this "Park". Truly, we are blessed in the Upson County community to have such a "natural treasure" to call our own. From the rocky sides of the bluff to the natural, free flowing waters of the Flint, there is nothing quite like the beauty afforded in this park setting. Set in West Central Georgia, it provides views and a peaceful quality not unlike other venues that one might see when exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, but she is simply a part of the Pine Mountain Range in our own locale. Thankfully, not much construction and "business" has taken away from the natural setting of the park. And hopefully with continued preservation of the Flint this park will be available for the generations to come!
Beautiful place and they just built a new lookout deck and restrooms for the public. It is great and growing.
beautiful views they have fishing picnic area the usual state park stuff but the view is beautiful peaceful perfect day for a couple to get away or a family to spend time together
We have taken out of town guests here for picnics. They are always so impressed. It is beautiful and the new pavilions are a welcome addition. In the summer, it is fun to pull your chair out in the water and relax. Young people always enjoy jumping off the big rock on the side that is deep enough to keep them from getting hurt. Also. the river is great for tubing. If you go on a weekday, there is hardly anyone there and it is very peaceful.
It's a great park. I have the good fortune of being able to stop and hike here from time-to-time during the week as I travel. The park is usually empty, or with very few other people. The "Natural Dam Trail" has the best scenic views. This park would definitely be a great place to bring the family.
We were driving there and had no idea how big the hills were because of the trees. There's a lookout with a great view of the hills and river before you drive into the park. Beautiful place. Nice river. Good little weekend escape.
