If you're looking for amazing glasswork, this is a great place to stop. Just a short distance from central Helen and up by Unicoi State Park, the shop is located in an approximately 100 year old former general store and has a variety of items, ranging from the simple to complex. The quality of it all is very good, and I was amazed at how they are able to get some of the textures on the pieces. The smaller pieces were more affordable for me, and I wish I could have been able to afford some of the larger, handkerchief style works, because they are beautiful. Their shop is located a few feet up the hill, and its interesting and educational to see them work. The day we were there, the husband was working on some pieces, and his wife explained the process he was doing. They were both very nice.
We visited Helen, GA while staying in Blairesville there are so many lovely shops and attractions, Glass Mountain Gallery & Studio had some beautiful treasures that I had to make room to bring home, the crystal and the engraving was just phenomenal and the value for dollar was quite good. There didn't seem to be a lot of employees so if you're in a hurry it may not be for you. What I purchased was worth the wait.
On our site seeing tour of Helen, we stopped by this place. We did not buy anything but the store had some really unique items. Price seemed reasonable. Staff was friendly.
I was afraid to walk into this store because of all the hand blown glass items! A lot of really nice pieces, and I really enjoyed watching the artist at work, blowing the glass. It is a bit warm here, obviously because of the fire used to blow the glass. It's also a little "crowded" - very little room to walk around, which is typical of most of the stores in Helen - some of the stores are so "busy" with items, that it loses something because there is too much to look at. We ended up not buying anything at this store, and carefully walking out!
I believe you have us confused with another Helen business. We are located outside Helen, near Unicoi State Park. We do large furnace work and are definitely a fine art gallery, and do not carry any souvenir type products. Since it seems you were hoping to see high end hand-blown glass, I hope you come visit us next time you are in the Helen area - you will not be disappointed!
You must have visited glass shop in downtown Helen. We do not carry swans filled with liquid, only fine art glass which we make in our own studio near Unicoi State Park. I hope you do come by to see us (Glass Mountain Gallery and Studio) when you are in the area again. I know you won't be disappointed!
My husband collects glass paper-weights, so when we saw the sign for this gallery near Unicoi, we had to make a u-turn even though it was out of our way. What a find! These folks have a wonderful studio and their glass-blowing workshop is next-door with large open-air screened panels where you can safely stand and watch the entire process while husband & wife team explain every step. It was so much fun to watch them blowing glass Christmas ornaments, then walk next door to the gallery and purchase beautiful examples right off their tree. The owners couldn't have been nicer, and the gallery is beautiful. Be sure and stop by if you're near Helen or Unicoi State Park!
