I could understand why this is one of Az best state parks. Price of $30.00 night is great for full hook-ups. Sites are nicey spaced your not on top of one another, campground is clean, bathroom are cleaned daily. Placing the RV on a cement slab is a plus. We stay in the Mallard section, it overlooks the lake, where fishing is good. Spaces 1 thru 10 have a view of the lake. Very peaceful campground. Town is close by for everything and also golf about 1 mile away.
We had my sons wedding there, the price, location, setting and staff were all perfect. It was a beautiful wedding all the guests went swimming and fished after wards it is well taken care of and clean.
Fools Hollow is an incredible place to camp and fish. They have everything from unimproved campsites to fully loaded paved campsites that have electricity and internet.
Clean well maintained camping sites. Lots of things to do, fishing, hiking, and some really nice views.
the place is gorgeous! cliffs, coves and lots of trees. It is pracically "in town" but you would not guess it! and the fishing is great!
We camped at here for one night at the end of June before heading to Sedona. I was a bit surprised to find the recreation area so close to town. We were driving through a residential area of Slow Low and the next thing I knew we were at the entrance. The recreation area itself is rather large and it’s not like you see any houses around, I just thought it would be out of town. Our campsite was Northern Harrier #07 which has a nice level ground area for a tent and single parking. Some of the sites share parking and seemed rather close together, so you might want to look at the pictures on the site before you reserve. The campsites at this end of the campground border the lake. Unfortunately, the lake is below the hill from the campsites where we were at with no path that we saw to reach the lake. Speaking of the lake, I had hoped it would be a bit larger where we were camped. From my perspective, it seemed more like a pond. It just was not at all what we were expecting. We also found the campground to be a bit more buggy than some of the other campgrounds we visited in AZ, but I think that could be due to the proximity of the lake and time of year we camped. The restrooms and showers seemed clean, although my shower was scalding with no way to change the temperature. We tried to find a ranger to report it, but could not find anyone. I’m sure it has been fixed since then. All in all, from what little we saw with just one night stay, it is a nice campground with a very pretty view of the lake. If I was in the area and was looking for a campground, I would stay here again. However, I probably would not drive out of my way to camp here. The lake seemed rather small with little going on and it was also further away from the things we wanted to see in AZ.
We took the 30 minute drive around. We plan to use the campground in the future.Great Value at only $30/nite with full hookups. Great hiking, fishing, and beautiful lake.
This was our first time there and we want to go back. There are plenty of places to picnic and they have rest rooms. There is a path to walk around the lake there is plenty of parking. You can go fishing and boating. There is a 7 dollar fee to enter the park well worth it.
We camped here 2 nights with family & had a great time. Our site overlooked the lake & it was beautiful. Saw lots of birds and unfortunately a skunk. But that was ok. Glad our dogs weren't along. We were also close to the bathrooms & shower. No fee for the shower is great. This is a great facility.
My husband and I went camping at Fool Hollow Lake for the first time this past weekend. We loved that the tent sites were separate from the RV sites, and were well situated beside the lake and underneath the shade trees. Quiet, and no uncomfortable concrete pads! The view from our site was lovely, and we enjoyed listening to the wildlife, reading, and having a few drinks. Very peaceful and relaxing. We brought our dogs, who had great fun swimming in the lake, though we decided it was a bit too weedy for us to join them. The drive up from Tucson was absolutely beautiful, especially going through Salt River Canyon in the Apache reservation lands. It got a bit chilly overnight, but nothing we couldn't handle. We'll definitely be coming back again, hopefully with some friends. Even for one night, it was well worth it.
I love this lake but it is a bit expensive if you just want to go there for the day to hike around and explore.
The lake is not very large, but looks like it would have good fishing and be fine for the rental kayaks and boats that are available. The gate staff were friendly and efficient. The campgrounds are very good and the RV sites, in particular, are excellent. Just be prepared for the fact that many of the sites, although paved, are not all that level. The restrooms are a bit strange in that most of them have their own shower, but everything works fine. You should reserve your site in advance, because the campground completely fills early on weekends. An aside, be sure to OBEY THE POSTED SPEED LIMITS in Show Low! Except for the friendly and helpful people you can meet throughout the town, the general tone of hostility toward visitors permeates the "official" town with prominent warning postings, erratic speed limit changes, little public parking, etc.
Fool Hollow Recreation area is one of our family's favorite camping spots in Arizona. We recently visited this AZ State Park for Labor Day weekend and once again, were thoroughly impressed. The campground is basically surrounded by Fool Hollow Lake. Our non-electric site was atop a hill overlooking part of the lake. Every morning is "the most incredible sunrise I've ever seen, as the sun peaks the east end of the lake and creates incredible vistas reflected off the water. Each non-electric site has tent pads cleared, paved parking, a picnic table, and a fire pit with a grill plate. Clean restrooms, showers, and drinking water are within a short walk of all the sites. For those with kids, a nice playground is close by. Our kids took scooters, roller blades, and bikes, and entertained themselves all the time. The fishing this weekend was a bit slow, but AZ Game and Fish regularly stocks the lake with trout and there are sunfish and catfish as well. Wildlife abounds in the area including all kinds of birds, rabbits, elk, squirrels, and more. Can't say enough and we will definitely be back!
Fools hollow is a beautiful place to visit and relax at. This place has scenery galore and is usually not to full of people, which is great if you are looking for a quiet place to fish. But if you aren't worried about catching any fish and don't mind getting zero nibbles on your line then by all means take your fishing pole. My family has been going there for three years now and we have yet to have so much as a nibble on our poles. And it isn't just us, every time we got out there, people are always asking "did you catch anything?" And the answer is unfortunately No. We have yet to see anyone pull anything from the lake, so I would doubt there is anything substantial in there to catch besides the tiny guppies about an inch long I have seen. You can fish in the "free" area but have to pay per car load for the farther areas that I guess are better. *maybe that's where the fish are? You have to pay for that area, just a thought*Anyway, if you want serene and quiet and beautiful go for the quietness and enjoy nature! Minus the fish :)
My family visited this lake for the afternoon one day while up in Show Low. It is very easy and close to town. A day pass cost $7. There seemed to be plenty of ramada's to picnic in too. The bathrooms were very clean for a public park. There seemed to be limited parking, however not too busy when we were there (on Labor Day). There was a few playgrounds for the kids. Also a few docks that you can walk out and fish on. The ramadas overlook the lake but are not exactly on the water. My young boys and I brought our swimming shorts and water shoes and had a great time catching crawdads along the shallow shore. There were a ton of them. The water was unexpectedly warm enough to swim in. This (I think) is a no motor lake, but paddle boats and kayaks are welcome. They even rent them here. We could easily spend the whole day here. We had fun.
