Took the time to see the chimes while I was in town. Interesting and a cool little restaurant located adjacent to it. Didn't get to try it out, maybe next time. The chimes are definitely large and cool to take a look if in the area. They look to be a popular tourist stop, I saw quiet a few people there taking pictures.
We were alerted to this attraction by the signs on the Interstate (à la Burma Shave signs of long ago). We needed to stop for lunch and gas fill-up so we thought, "why not?'. The signs efficiently directed us to the windchime which is located in a well-kept, fenced, little park. Beside it is an immaculate coffee shop with excellent restrooms.A rope invites visitors to ring the chimes, which, being huge, ring with very low tones. A 'tinkly' -sounding wind chime is suspended from the eaves of the coffee shop.Across the street is the foundation for 'the world's biggest rocking chair' (coming soon). While in town DO NOT MISS the 'world's largest golf tee' at the country club (follow the signs) and the 'world's largest knitting needles and crochet hook' at The Yarn Studio - a wonderful yarn shop - on the corner of E Main St. and S Central St. (at the turn to go to the wind chime).
When you're driving down the highway for endless hours, it is definitely worth it to stop by real quick and visit the world's largest wind chime! It is in a pretty display of a little park-like area right in town and it is stunning. The sound it makes is a much deeper tone that I expected but it makes sense because it so large. You can just walk up and ring it. It's a nice free attraction that pull people like me into the cute little town of Casey, Illinois. I pray that the music made by the chime will remind all of the music that will surround God's throne for all eternity.
While traveling south, we saw the sign for "The World's Largest Wind Chime" in Casey, and decided to go exploring. I'm so glad we did. Even though the shop was closed, we were able to see the wind chime and ring it. What fun! The Christmas decorations are still up, so it looks beautiful. If you are passing through, this is only a couple of miles off the interstate (I-70). Stop and see it! I wish the store was open, would have loved to have a wind chime from there as a memento.
This town apparently is home to a lot of the "world's largest" and this is the main attraction. Although it would likely take hurricane winds to move them on their own it has a way you can cause them to chime yourself. Interesting and worth a look if you're in the area with nothing to do.
A neat attraction (free) in a neat town. Stop here and ring the world's largest wind chime and enjoy travel bragging rights to impress your friends. You can spend money traveling to exotic places and still have difficulty matching the quixotic flavor of Casey, Illinois.
We saw the signs along the interstate and decided to exit and look for the chimes. We had a bit of trouble because there were not enough signs in town. But it was well worth the effort. The chimes are beautiful, and it was a gorgeous, peaceful place to stop to see Small Town America. The gift shop was nice and the staff very pleasant and kind. Sometimes it pays to get off the beaten track for a while, and slow down to enjoy the day. Well done!
The largest wind chimes is a fun place to visit in a park like setting in the middle of town. There is also a small shop up the street that is home to the World Largest Knitting Needles. The World Largest Golf Tee is also a fun place to visit out at the Country Club Golf Course. Work has started on the World Largest Rocking Chair also in Casey.
Now that is using your good old, common sense wits. And there is one more on the way, the worlds largest rocking chair. Well done citizens of Casey, enjoy all your success. The wind chimes were beautiful and a wonderful piece of art. The worlds largest golf tee is a fun place to see as well. Enjoy your visit to Casey.
I LOVE all these silly giant attractions and try to make a point to see them. This one is well done on it's own but the town has died around it and is a little depressing. If you can drive by on your way to somewhere, please do, but I wouldn't recommend making a special trip, especially with kids.
We saw the signs along I-70 mentioning this attraction and we thought, why not. It sits right on the main road in downtown Casey. It made a good photo and refreshed us for the return to I-70. Don't miss the World's Largest Golf Tee also in Casey at the country club and the World's Largest Catsup Bottle in Collinsville.
Stopped to see the Wind Chime, the Golf Tee and Knitting Needles. Such A FUN IDEAS put together by a local business man wanting to put this lovely small town on the map.....thanks for a nice stop on a cross USA drive!
We got off at this exit to grab some lunch, I figured since we were already there...we would go find the Wind Chime and the Golf Tee. When we found the Wind Chime, it was big. There was one other family there and we shared some laughs with them, rang the bells on the chime, not the way I expected it to sound, but still fun!
Casey Illinois where you can find "big things in a small town." Casey is home to the worlds largest wind chimes, and you can really ring them too! Also home to the Popcorn Festival, a carnival and crafts fair every Labor Day. Soon to be home to the worlds largest Golf Tee and Rocker. These people think big! The World Largest Wind Chimes stand at 55 ft tall and the longest chime is 42 feet. The entire thing is steel. For people traveling between Memphis to Chicago, Casey is about a half hour out of the way, off I70, but you can get a really nice meal, pastry or tea in this small, quaint town at the Whitling Whimsey, a wonderful sandwich and souvenir shop at 107 East Main. It is right next to the chimes, surrounded by pretty flowers.
Nice little piece of art work in a Great little town. There is a great cafe next to the wind chime that serves a little bit of everything. They also have a special that changes daily. The special for the day we visited was lasagna with green beans and garlic toast. Good size portion for the price.
