very small museum, but nice collections. unclear why docent required us to start on second floor, as opposed to first floor. the student-curated exhibit was the best part for my art tastes. There didn't seem to be a unifying artistic theme to the current exhibitions.

The Block has nice manageable temporary exhibits that are free to the public. It is located very close to campus parking, which requires some payment on weekdays, or is free after 4pm and on weekends. The museum has some spacious rooms, which allow for appreciating the artworks without having to bump into others and without feeling too constrained. Some of the exhibits take advantage of this by displaying big pieces that would not fit just any space. You are likely to find the works of artists that are less well-known and thus will offer something new. When in the area, this museum is definitely worth a visit.

My wife and I make sure to check out the Block Art Museum every six months or so. The downstairs gallery has rotating displays some of which come from the work of graduate students at Northwestern. The staff is quite helpful, and we have been approached and engaged numerous times by staff explaining displays and conversing with us. This is a very small art museum. You will probably need about 45 minutes at the maximum to see the displays. When you are finished take a walk out on the Lake Fill by Lake Michigan or you can easily walk into Evanston.

Just reopened and had a terrific opening artist. This place is right on campus with a super view of Lake Michigan as well. I think you only need about 60-90 mins to see all the exhibits in this small but well curated museum.

I have always enjoyed the thoughtful and well curated shows at the block and the accompanying movie theater. The galleries were closed for renovations but should be reopening next month.A nice free treat if staying in Evanston

Generally speaking the exhibits are very educational and worth a trip. I also recommend getting a movie schedule. The films they show are rarely seen masterpieces.

This small museum is on the Northwestern lakefront campus. It has Interesting exhibits, some by faculty and students. Exhibits change often.

It would be a shame to miss the Mary and Leigh Block Museum on Northwestern University's Evanston campus. The exhibitions change frequently and all have artistic and social significance. The building is noteworthy and one aspect of the museum that is consistent is the lovely sculpture garden on the grounds surrounding the museum. This also provides the opportunity to experience many of the lovely buildings on the campus, old and new.

Fabulous exhibits, great lectures, movies, and programs, right next to the lake, a theater and a concert hall! What's not to like?

I just saw a fabulous exhibit there this past weekend on the Persuit of Knowledge. It was an exhibit of beautiful old prints. It included Durer's work and many others. And what georgeous astrological maps from the 1600's! In the past I saw an exhibit on Russian prints, with wonderful old books and posters. It is a super museum.

Each and every one of the many exhibits I have attended in this intimate space has been greatly rewarding. The art is beautifully displayed and of great interest and the size of the gallery allows me to give each piece "its due"!The nearby parking lot is free after 4:00 p.m. and on weekends though you can buy a parking pass before 4:00 p.m. (See http://www.blockmuseum.northwestern.edu/visit/index.html)
