Love this place the deer were in our campsite every morning and evening. We will be back for sure. Camp hosts were helpful and friendly
This was my first tent camping trip I have ever taken and I am 32! My boyfriend had been up here before about 6 years ago, and said it would be a great first tent camping location. Overall, he was right! We had a great time and enjoyed the camping facilities. Everyone on the campgrounds we interacted with were friendly, knowledgable about the area, and helpful with questions. The bathroom facilities and showers were clean and well maintained. (I am a Chicago city girl and very picky about public restrooms, and I felt they were great for a camping site!)The only negative thing we would say about this trip was that the beach and lake were closed! We talked to some locals in town, and they said the park has had to close the beach and lake every year it seems at some point. We were Disapointed to find this out since we both are big into water activities. (Paddle boating, canoeing, etc...) We then discovered that the former consession stand was closed. Apparently no one was able to keep it open? It bummed us out because it looked like it used to be a vibrant little beach/lake community! I hope they can come up with a solution so this doesn't keep happening each season. I know that we will come back again in the near future, but besides the walking trails for visitors, we will bring other things to do together at our campsite. Overall we had a great time and we would recommend this campsite to anyone that was looking for a nice weekend getaway. We hope that they are able to find a solution to the lake and beach always being closed.
This is where I grew up, so maybe I am a little biast, but this is one of my favorite places on earth. When I took my husband up to my hometown, this is one of the main places I had to bring him :) I love it here, so peaceful.
I love the park. When i lived in Lena i was in the park at least once a week. Even in the winter it was great.
We visit Lake Le-Aqua-Na state park at least once a year for a family get away! Grounds are always perfectly manicured as well as no mosquito's anywhere! Bathrooms are always clean and inviting for that morning shower! Hosts greet you with a smile and make you feel like you are always welcome! Quiet shadded sites are perfect along with the well groomed hiking trails! Great place for that relaxing get away!
Beautiful hiking trails ,several miles in the forest along the creek and the surrounding hills.Clean and well organized camping area, clean showers and toilets.10 $ for tent site ,20$ electric site.Fishing on the lake is fun, bass, catfish ...Saturday night can be very crowded so I prefer Sunday/Monday stay.
We camped nearby and went to check out the park. It is beautiful! The lake has a nice sand beach swimming area and there is a dock to fish off of. The lake is set in the hills, so the road that goes around the lake is very steep at times. It seems like it is quite a distance from the campground to the playground and beach and could be difficult for kids, but maybe there are trails that we didn't see from the road. There is no parking at the playground or the kids fishing pond. We are definitely going back!
Lake Le-Aqua-Na was suggested by the park ranger when I called about another park in the area. We had a nice large site with electric. Most sites are level and the park did not seem overcrowded. Only one shower house for the whole park with 3 showers which was decently clean on Saturday, but not so nice by Sunday or Monday. Had a hard time finding the entrances for the trails even with a map, but then didn't have much opportunity to re-explore as the weather was inclement. Wish the park had some trails around the "lake" as there was just a fishing area and sandy area toward one end. The rest was surrounded by woody areas, so the beauty of the area was not able to be taken advantage of. Not much in the town of Lena but a Dollar General and grocery store, but this was adequate-try the Corner Tap in Stockton not too far away for pizza.
I have never gone camping here but here are alot of spaces and full a lot of times. Swimming beach and a great blacktop drive around the lake
We had read and heard about this state park and decided to take a drive up north to Lena Illinois near the Wisconsin border and check it out. It was well worth the drive. This state park is a treasure with so much to offer. We spent the whole day there enjoying the park on a great spring day.The center attraction is the lake, very scenic and quiet. There are a variety of trails for walking that are well marked and provide great views of the area. Most of the trails inter connect so you can do some longer day hikes. We walked along several and enjoyed the natural scenery of the park.We had a great picnic lunch along the lake and spent some time just sitting reading and relaxing looking over the lake water. Again, very peaceful. This park has a lot to offer, including canoeing and swimming. We would definitely return and spend more time to enjoy all the different activities and scenery every season has to offer at this well maintained state park.
Beautiful, quiet lake. Very peaceful, nice day trip. The restaurant/store is off again/on again, they have trouble keeping it open because they can't find someone to take it on. Hope they work it out because this is a nice place to spend some family time.
We camped with friends that ride the trails on horseback. We joined them in riding, nice wooded trails, many to choose from. Bathroom close by. No alcohol allow in sites but is good since safety with horses is a concern. Nice area!
We camped here several years ago but have visited since. Great electric and tent sites, very secluded and wildlife abounds. The racoons that is. Make sure to secure all your coolers, they are really smart in this park. Bathrooms are clean and the lake is nice for a swim.
Lake-Le-Aqua-Na is one of the best parks in the area and there is no fee charged outside of campgrounds. Hiking trails are interesting for the family with toddlers or for experienced walkers. Be sure to bring a camera so you don't miss the chance to make a memory. Deer, wild turkey, squirrels and other woodland creatures are plentiful. The fall colors are amazing here and perfectly enjoyed by the 2.2 mile trek around the lake. It's a good workout for all walkers. The campgrounds are well-maintained. One site is for tents only. Swimming at the lake is not good as the water is not clean. Motor boats are not allowed. Row your way across the lake and enjoy the scenery. There is a fishing pond for youth only as well as a generous playground area.
We came to this park just to spend a couple of hours one afternoon. We hiked on a trail for about an hour and it was very well marked. Our son was excited to see 3 deer while on our hike. After that we went to the beach to dip our toes in to cool off a bit. It's a small park, but a nice way to spend an afternoon.
