baxter's vineyards

My wife and I just spent a weekend in Nauvoo. We stayed at the Grand Nauvoo B & B directly across the street from Baxter Vineyards. Even in the cold off-season, the area is beautiful with vineyards and open fields surrounding the property. The tasting room is very inviting and, in addition of course to the wonderful wines, offers wire-related gifts and local treats including cheese, sausage, jams, candies and other things. The wines run the gamut from dry local varietals to sweeter fruit wines. My wife and I like dry reds, and the Norton, Riverbend Red and Nauvoo Red were all very good. The current winemaker represents the fifth generation of the Baxter family's operation of the winery, and this depth of experience and knowledge shows in the wines.Baxter Vineyards is a must visit if you are in the Nauvoo/Keokuk area.

Go for the wine and you'll be pleased. No big tour here-2 rooms to walk through on your own-but their wines are lovely. We sampled several and bought more than one bottle. Wine in Illinois? Who Knew?
